Navigating Workplace Challenges: Seeking Safety and Comfort

I volunteer for a charity and there's a lot of banter amongst the staff. As the manager says don't show weakness as its jumped on and becomes the running joke.
I've learned throughout my work life to have a thick skin, head down and think of the money. Another colleague was so distressed as they had found his and didn't stop.
A couple of us tried to discuss this with the manager over lunch and realisation hit me that it's just another unsafe place and I don't know if I want to be here anymore. I have been bullied, manipulated, exploited in the workplace since I was 16 and I'm now 60. I'm exhausted by it all and I had thought I had found a safe place but now feel quite unsteady and uncomfortable.

ModNote: Just checking that you did want this thread as a diary, rather than in a member discussion forum? Either is perfectly fine, I’m only checking, as you’re a new member.

Trauma Diaries are your own space to discuss whatever you wish, or to use as >>> Guidance for using a trauma diary for exposure therapy (cbt) but, regardless of how one chooses to use them, members are only allowed ONE trauma diary, in each of the 3 diary subforums.

- Trauma Diary
- Trauma Diary (Members Only)
- Trauma Diary (Private)

Unlike the other forums that can have countless threads posted to them.

If you’d like it to stay? Just keep right on posting.
If you’d like this thread to be moved to Employment/Education/Disability? Simply click report post, and any available staff member can do so, for you.

Best,

Friday

Do you need for your job to be a safe place?

Good question.
I could step back from the volunteering and just focus on the 5 hrs a week I actually work, keep my head down and my distance and just earn the money and then it wouldn't matter. Maybe.
