Supporter New Girl Here!

Hello everyone! I'm a supporter in a new relationship with a sufferer. I know I can't "fix" him, nor do I want to. Just want to know how I can be supportive to him and not feel too overwhelmed myself. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum , I'd advise you not to expect too much. Everyday is different. Understanding , supporting, listening caring and respecting how he feels would be fantastic . It can be overwhelming for you as you will learn new things everyday , but small steps would be great. I'm sure you will get lots of support from here. Be honest with each other , read other sufferers blogs but remember everyone's ptsd is different to the individual X good luck x

Welcome.

What I learned that my wife does that doesn't work: get angry at me for accidentally shutting her out when. Ptsd symptoms arise, and not listening to me when I tell her about it.

What works: listening, not being judgmental, and trying to understand what I do during a PTSD outbreak, and how to facilitate that in a positive way.

Every day is a struggle, and it is different, but as long as you do your best to communicate and listen, you will do just fine.
