New Job

I just got a new job and will be starting in June. I am newly diagnosed with PTSD and a social anxiety disorder of some sort. I will be seeing my T next week and the psychiatrist the following week. I have not seen this psychiatrist before and am only seeing him because my T wants me to do a medication consult. I am very anxious about starting my new job but am also very excited.

I won't be able to take time off of work to see my T and the psychiatrist on a regular basis so I'm not sure what I'm going to do or can do.

Any suggestions?

Could your therapist stay late one day a week? Did you talk to your therapist (T) about the scheduling problem? I would think he would be able to do something for you. My T said he would work around my schedule if I got a job. I'm not ready to work yet but when I am I sure hope I'll still be able to see mu T.

I haven't got the chance to tell her yet. I see her next week. I know the office is strictly 8-5. I could ask if she would be willing to. If I do end up getting put on medication, I would also have to see if the psychiatrist would be willing to stay late too

After I saw a psychiatrist, my primary care doctor took care of my prescriptions for me so I didn't have to see so many providers. I hope she will do this for you.

Hi Grace
I have just replied to your other thread questioning your diagnosis, where you say you have seen 2 different psychiatrists in the past. The most recent a month ago. Why on earth are you seeing another different one for the medications? Why is it not the one who made the diagnosis ( giving you that much needed opportunity to ask him further questions)? This is just not making any sense to me.

As for scheduling therapy, I always have mine after work. ( and I work full time).

Ok I saw one like a year ago and he diagnosed me with like 4 different disorders after seeing me for 20 minutes in his office. A few months ago I started seeing my T (psychologist). She had me see the medical director (psychiatrist) in the practice for testing. He diagnosed me with PTSD. Now she has me seeing another psychiatrist for a medication consult. Why the medical director who diagnosed me can't prescribe meds I don't know. May he just does testing? Not sure.

Hi Grace511

Sorry you are having these issues balancing your work and your health treatments.

Is it possible to arrange your needs with someone in the personnel department or Human resources department. Losing an hour of work time especially at the end of the day is usually preferable to a whole or half day off. Also if there is a trusted person at work, even if it is just to talk about the basics of your illness it may make things easier if a problem arises.
