New Here
So I made an appointment with a new T. I see her Thursday. She seemed very understanding and open on the phone. She is a trauma Therapist. I am super nervous and have anxiety about the emdr. She did explain that we need to get to know each other before we would try emdr.

My T was a CBT therapist. At our closing session last week, she said wanted me to try a trauma Therapist.

It was very strange not to see her today as Monday was my weekly appointment with her. I am still feeling very sad over the loss. It feels very strange as I didn't realize how attached I had gotten to her.

I know the feeling of starting with a new T as I start with a trauma T Thursday as well. However I am lucky to be able to keep my old T as well. Good luck Thursday! Be kind to yourself!

FindingMyself88- I would not have made the change, however my T had to close her practice.(she is battling cancer)

Good Luck too you!

Hi, I related to this post because I was in a very similar situation over the summer- I began to see a new trauma therapist who specialized in EMDR. I had EMDR done over the course of 5 sessions, but I had met with her a few times before the EMDR started to get to know her.

Don't stress out about the EMDR. Generally, one session works on one incident or memory. The anxiety builds up to a point, and then all of a sudden it's not so bad to think about anymore. It's not an exact science so don't expect perfection- but it can certainly help you reconcile with your past. Best of luck to you.

I understand your nervousness about a new 'T'. I achieved great success with EMDR, and have used it on more than one occasion. My T is also a trauma therapist. I had given up on traditional therapy CBT. I had talked, and talked, and talked, and did a lot of coping skills training but felt I had reached a point of going nowhere farther with it.

I found my current T, when a friend was assaulted by a male physician, and was afraid to be in a closed room with a male therapist. She needed someone with specialized training which he has. I was able to sit in on their sessions, in the back where I was not a part of it. I watched how well it worked on her, and how her facial expression changed from deep sadness and sorrow, to a look of peace. THAT made me want to try it! So, I asked if I could see him, and it's the BEST decision I have ever made!!

He has brought me farther than all the other therapists I've ever had and that's at least 5 since I was 21. I am 57 now, and have been seeing him for about 10 years. I'm 'medically retired' due to Chronic Major Depressive Disorder, as well as a host of physical pain issues.

I can't emphasize enough how much EMDR has helped me! Of course, everyone is different, and you do have to feel comfortable and trusting with the person using the technique. They need to know you and your history as well to know exactly what to 'target'.

Best wishes, and hope for a good outcome!(hugs if ok)
