I took Paxil. They took me off of Celexa because of a possible heart issue they were predicting would happen to me if I continued. I found it similar to that drug. It has an added anti-anxiety component to it but I didn’t notice a lot.
Definitely worked for me as a replacement for the drug that saved me and gave me some badly needed relief. What you will expect is hard to say. I took a few other antidepressants before ending up on Paxil. When I finally found the right one my search ended there.
Slows metabolism way down so weight gain can be an issue.
Libido can be lessened.
Apetite goes up.
Drinking is not a good idea on this medication. The combination of alcohol and Paxil has produced risky and unpredictable behavior in other people including me so that’s something to consider. Use of other substances along with it is also a no-go. Risk of blackout can occur, acting without inhibition.
People prescribed Paxil are often also prescribed something along the lines of clonazepam or alprazolam and this is another factor that stacks with everything else, believe me.
Honestly it’s a pretty powerful anti-depressant with an effect to quell some of the persistent anxiety over time which makes it a godsend to some people if it works for them.
Eventually I had a strange feeling that I was being held back by the medication and so I tapered off of it. I then tapered myself off of clonazepam and my hunch was right.. Not only did I not need it anymore, it was hindering my motivation. I became a lot more active and fit after stopping this medication. So it might make you a bit lazy and gain weight.
Coming off of it was also unpleasant. I was having what people are calling brains apps. They went away in a couple of weeks. I had a strange sensation when I was walking around and looking around, each time I moved my head I would feel an almost indescribable physical sensation of phasing out of reality. But the condition was never serious and went away.
So for me it had its pros and cons for sure, but at the time I was taking it I really needed it badly and didn’t care about side effects.
