Oh, and I forgot this, but thought I'd add...
In secondary school, I had a friend who was an achondroplasic dwarf. She was an excellent writer, and was offered the chance to write an editorial for the local newspaper. She decided to write about dwarfism. She used the word "dwarf" in her article several times. After the editorial was published, there was a whole slew of angry letters from readers who said the word "dwarf" was insulting and demeaning. Of course none of them actually were dwarfs or little people. I wish I could have seen their faces when she replied to the letters saying Umm ... duh... I am a dwarf, and I'm not offended by the term in the slightest!
