Psychiatrists Who Give A Damn, Do They Exist?

Just saw my second Psychiatrist earlier this week.
The first one didn't work out.
My therapist not being a Psychiatrist.
Psychiatrist prescribed me a new medicine.
We had a lengthy discussion...he was a jerk...but that is another thread and I had resolved some of that with myself (and the help of the forum...thanks guys).
But then...learn new medicine has a shit load of sugar in it.
I am Type I Diabetic.
This came up in our interview. Actually felt like I had to convince him (again another forum).
Anyway...he apparently disregarded that particular piece of important info. and the medicine he prescribed has me fighting BGs of over 600 for over 4 hours now.
Had to call the pharmacist and they looked up ingredients. Apparently there is no sugar free version of this medicine.
Didn't check BG yesterday but this explains the bad nights sleep and excessive sweating etc.
Is there a Psychiatrist out there who treats patients and not just symptoms. Someone who doesn't just begin by prescribing their favorite medicine and then let the patient deal with all of the side effects of it until we convince them it isn't working...am just wondering...
Have no faith in stupid Psychiatrists right now.

Are you quite certain that you must be on medication? Or might a very good therapist be able to help you without it? I'm a believer in therapists because they CAN NOT prescribe, which means that they must simply work with your symptoms. Another possibility is to go to a therapist, get a diagnosis and recommendations for medications based on your actual symptoms and actual diagnosis, and have the therapist liase with your GP in order for you to get the medications. Then you can avoid psychiatrists altogether.

All those meds do is suppress your symptoms, psychiatrists are just doing a job, so why would they care?
