I think mine fall under "losing control". They are never exact copies of traumatic events from my life...
I have the same thing in my nightmares that my punches are in slow motion and don't affect my attacker. I also dream I am running away but can only move in slow motion. Sometimes it's so vivid that I start to fear the same thing would happen in real life

I know what you mean about the slow motion and reality of your nightmares can be, as all my nightmares are actually real events that I've gone through in my past, to the point that when I wake up screaming, it takes my brain a while to figure out where I am?

My nightmares mostly mimic my traumas, however, I do have the all too common falling dreams or star...
I have dreams like your snake dream, too, not with snakes specifically but with another phobia, of mascots. I'm not sure exactly why but my brain sometimes associates the fear of mascots with the fears I have from trauma, so to me, mascots can feel just as dangerous and scary, especially in my dreams where my own logic can be completely true (like that mascots will attack me if I show fear, which is why they don't hurt anyone else, because nobody else is afraid).
I know it's not exactly the same but I wanted to let you know I can relate.
