I was in the Air Force from 2001 - 2004. My room mate who lived with me in the dorms ended up killing 2 people off base and robbing a store. Ever since then, I have struggled with Anxiety and Panic attacks. I was discharge from the military in 2004 and given a General Under Honorable Conditions. This event caused my to lose focus in the military and caused me to mess up a lot at work, so they let me go. At that time, I was young and did not know how to get help for what I was going through. I have been taking Valium and have been treated and diagnosed with PTSD and Anxiety disorder. I know that it came from this event. The question that I have is this, Am i eligible to received VA Disability Benefits for this problem. I have a lot of depression, have anger problems, sleeping problem and some OCD. I hardly think about this event anymore but I know that the event started it in the military. Please give advice if you can. I did not get this from being in combat. I was only deployed to Kyrgyzstan in the military.

I wasn't in your military, so I can't say. Didn't want to read and then ignore you though. It can be frustrating when you see the hit counter go up, but ne response.

Mate, I have no idea how your VA works either, but everything is worth a try. PTSD is PTSD whether from combat or something else. A suggestion though, as your PTSD is not related to combat, you might find better answers on the sister forum. www.ptsdforum.org

Just a thought

First qualifer for PTSD in the pre Afgan era VA is "Where did you encounter combat?" They then pull your service records and check to insure that there is a note in your srb that you were involved in combat. During this process, you will be treated poorly and passed around from dept to dept in the VA not really getting help but being interviewed by many doctors who act like your full of it. I can't speak for the current conditions in a VA setting. Now that PTSD is more accepted and understood, there might be more acceptance for what you went through. I kinda doubt it.

Our country is basically pre-2004. Now to be recognised 100% with the VA you either have to have PTSD or be missing a body part. I think Australia is starting to head down the TBI path to save them paying a full 100% to anyone.

One of my boy's mates, well his dad recently came back from Afghanistan after the Bushmaster they were in hit a 155 Howitzer IED. He can hardly hear anymore. They are kicking him out of the military.

Youd have to check with the VA...it doesnt automatically diqualify you but there are provisions in which your type of discharge does disqualify....all depends on what they decide. I wish i had better knows man....really do.

My discharge reads honerable RE3-p was told once they would have to dig up the dead for reenlistment before they would come looking for me again. (due to on the job injuries) Combat can be such a bitch. I could be offered that money again and I would tell them again to shove it so far...

Sorry I can't help buddy, I'm still trying to figure out the maze myself. Any info I get I'll pass on. Meanwhile, keep the faith.
