Afternoon All,

I am aware of a previous thread... but I reckon most of you have forgotten about it anyway, so let's do it again ;) Never know what new things may pop into yours heads.

Finally accepted defeat against my current battle with the beast and against meds. Been put on 50mg of this Sertraline stuff, to be taken at night; hopefully the drowsiness kicks in. Been told I will most likely need to rise, so have to go back soon for the review.

The side effect that worries me is restlessness! Can't remember the official medical term for it? Well, restlessness is a big player in my battle with the beast, so here goes...

Never had a problem with erectile dysfunction, but I'm up for trying it :) seriously, I couldn't care right now.

Anyone care to add there little bit? It would be appreciated. Even if it's not directly related; good chat is good chat.

Dan

I was on meds for depression quite a while ago. They were SSRI's, they both caused some disfunction. It's a side effect. But as you mention, when you feel like that you don't really care about much anyway. One good thing though, when you do get off of them things will return to normal in 'that' area. The meds did help with my depression.

If that happens I'm sure I will get it back with a vengeance some other time! Not exactly life's answer to sex god at the moment with this ptsd anyway.:ROFLMAO: I'm usually wired, some serious life changes required, I am working too much, another area of my life I need to adapt to my new brain. Keep busy, mind focused on anything but my feelings. Catching up. Again, I understand how this stops people working.

I still find it weird how I don't feel depressed, which I know is high amongst our ranks. I don't feel depressed, very different from that, just alien...unless I have a hangover... that gives me a whole understanding about depression, for a week or maybe more. Killed that hobby during the two years following tour, complete mess. I held it together because I was still active with PT I think. Used to love PT:D

I got back in to the gym and running a while back.

It realy does help deal and keep your head clear. 3 times a week Body Pump and 2x jogging,

Good stuff that body pump. I get to keep a basic fitness with one of my jobs, but I need to start beasting it again in the gym. Summer of PT for me come June.

We had a marine PTI/SNCO as our section commander on my pti course. Animal. Burpees are a great exercise, just not at the time. The guy made me sit in the monkey bars water, for 1o mins for no reason. I wasn't arguing, even though it was basically winter.

I have been on 50 mg of sertraline for many many years. I find that it keeps you a wake and makes it hard to fall asleep. I would recommend if you have this problem take it in the morning when you first get up. Also you must eat after you take the medicine or you get sick. Another side affect is that it makes it very hard to have an orgasm. You can have sex for hours and still no orgasm. It does not matter if you are having sex while watching a porno about 10 midgets gang banging a girl covered in Heinz 57 while riding a donkey. No orgasm. After about 8 weeks your body adjusts and you can have orgasms but it does take a little extra time and effort than normal.

What works for some people might not work for others, and side effects can vary too.

Zoloft/Sertraline, I started on 50 mg, went to 100 mg, then 200 mg. I was on this medication for years.

I found it was best taken in the morning as super-dave said, it can keep you awake, it also made me sweat a lot, even in airconditioning. Your best bet is to read up on every medication you are given.

One side effect which it can have is to make you into a porn star. It makes the ability to finish prolonged, if you get my meaning.

This drug became ineffective on me eventually and they changed me to Pristiq, which is a new drug and works well today.

If your after an antidpressant to help aid in sleep then I recommend a small dosage of Avanza/Mirtazapine Solutab. 15 mg or 30 mg. It works a treat, funnily, larger dosages don't have nearly the same affect.

In the perfect world one would hope we could all deal with our demons, get physically fit and not have any need for any medication. This can happen for some people, but unfortunately for others it may not. This can be due to any number of factors. There are a lot of veterans who move to the boonies and become self sufficient. They have no triggers, no life stressors and usually can deal without having to be on any medication at all.
Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world.

There are a lot of guys on here that have been on a myriad of medications, so if you have any queries feel free to ask.

My last bit of advice for anyone getting new medication would be to check with both psych and medical doctor and also your pharmacist, just in case one affects the other. Stranger things have happened.

Just followed the link...cheers mate...

What should I avoid when taking Zoloft?

"This medication may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert".

:ROFLMAO: anything that requires you to be alert? like general day to day living?;)

They have to get every possibility down.

Cheers for the tip guys about taking it in the morning, I guess the doctor has never popped a few pills, he told me at night. I will make sure my psychologist knows, doubt she'll be surprised.

I hate it when they say could cause weight gain or could cause weight loss.

Four of my medications have a sticker which say could cause drowsiness. Sometimes I wish.

On one of the websites about Sertraline I found, someone had commented and left a link to a video about the birth defects it causes in unborn children, good job I'm not pregnant.
