Has anyone experienced severe rapid weight gain from taking a large daily dose of Gabapentin?i was taking 4800 mg and gained a significant amount of weight in a short amount of time which the doctor did not make me aware.

Thank you

I was on a very high dosage. Weight gain was not a prob, but withdrawal was NOT pleasant if I forgot to take it for more than 2 days.

Nardil is mono amino oxidase inhibiter where as Gabapentin works on GABA with a few affects on the mono amino oxidase, so that's were the weight gain might come into play

Nomedic1, I'm so glad I'm off of it now. However, the withdrawal side effects were horrible, as are with most medications :(

I am on neurontin but I have not gained weight. I found that neurontin helps with my anger but that maybe just a placebo effect. I had the doctor put me in it even before I was officially diagnosed with PTSD.

Thank you, Ed Norton.

I was wondering about this issue when I rapidly gained a significant amount of weight in a short amount of time immediately after my psychiatrist tripled my dose. I did a small amount of superficial research and discovered that one of the side effects was, indeed, rapid weight gain. But since he did not mention this, nor have anyone else I know on Gabapentin mention weight gain I wanted to post a thread on here.

As with all medications, I suppose we all experience different side effects, but sometimes we experience the same, too.

I'm happy to know you did not experience this. :)

Even though I did not experience weight gain on neurontin, I am thinking of tapering off as my temper seems to be controlled now. I tend to feel more sad and depressed than angry nowadays. Plus I feel that I am on too many pills as it is.

Ed Norton,

I feel the same way about being on too much medication. I took a picture of all the bottle in my cabinet stacked like a pyramid and sent it to my friend. He responded by saying it looked like a chemist's! However, I do have a couple of foundation medications I know my body needs, for example, Celexa, and Clonipin for debilitating panic attacks.
