Solo Somatic Experiencing

Hi everyone

I have been in therapy for about six months primarily doing somatic experiencing,though it has been a slow process I am starting to see some good results,particularly in the last couple of months,though nothing dramatic but every now and again I have these small little breakthroughs.

I find the whole process really fascinating,slowly getting back in tune with my body and such and feel like my trust and confidence in my body and and mind are slowly but surely coming back.

My question is has anyone done Somatic Experiencing on their own at home by themselves ?.

I ask because I love doing therapy but I only do one a hour session a week and that flies by and I feel like I am getting the confidence and curiosity do try by myself.
 
Thanks for starting this thread. I would love to try somatic experiencing (have read Levine's work), but don't have the money for therapy. If anyone has concrete tips for how to go it alone down this path, I'm all ears! :)

It seems Levine's most self-help-y book is Healing Trauma. I haven't read it, and am wondering if anyone has had any luck using it. Or any other books for that matter!
 
Hi in the end I didn't try on my own for various reasons,one being i'm safer under the guidance of my therapist but that doesn't mean I wouldn't try in the future or recommend trying it on your own.There are small grounding techniques I do which my therapist has shown me and are in Peter Levine's books also.

If you haven,t got it I recommend buying any of Peter Levine's books,waking the tiger seems to be the obvious one to start with to give you an understanding of the process and there are exercises you can do yourself
