Ssri Plus Tricyclic

I have been on a dose of 40mg celexa for awhile. My doctor has just prescribed to me Amitriptyline for my insomnia.

I'm aware of the risks now of combining these two types of drugs, but had no idea at the time in the office.

Has anyone taking this combination or lexapro with elevil or anything similar?

I guess I'll just wait till I pick up the script to hear what the pharmacist says before calling the doc, still kind of makes me paranoid that something bad might happen.

I think the biggest risk would be combining a MAOI with a tricyc. Or ssri (MAOI are usu. Only given in an inpatient setting)
As far as I know tricyc. and ssri have a similar (ish) mechanism of action.

Yeah, risk is low because celexa is a relatively weak inhibitor and my doses for both drugs are low. So I believe there is not much danger of serotonin syndrome, which was the thing I was worried about.
