Us In The Crap After Wikileaks Documents

It wasn't them... it was a person who had access to the system and was downloading the information progressively over time and taking it home with them. They then passed it to wikileaks. The US Government tried to have it stopped but failed... along with all the military leaked documents that they got hold off pretty much the same way. Wikileaks founder is outside the US... working out of Switzerland I believe... as their laws provide them safe haven to so this type of work. If the founder even returns to Australia now, being an Australian, he is likely to be arrested and tried.

Intothelight: very good point. Let me give you another example of the mainstream press cherrypicking what they want the rest of us to hear.

You may have heard that the UK is hosting the 2012 Olympics. That, inevitably, involves medals of the gold, silver and bronze variety. Oh, and official pins and badges, plus souvenir stuff. Now it would be reasonable to suppose, would it not, that these would be manufactured in Britain - I'm sure the US would, the germans would, the French most definitely would. Just like we did in the last olympics here aeons ago (specifically the jewellery quarter in Birmingham).

Last year our local TV station, based in B'ham, ran a story that the jewellery quarter were somewhat miffed that they hadn't been given the contract for 2012.

If any of you are athletes and you win a medal at the 2012 Olympics, turn it over and have a look on the back where, no doubt, you will find (probably in small print) the words 'Made in China'!

Switzerland needs to knock it the heck off with this sort of thing. They seem to wish to appear as this uber civilized, above the fray, opt out of controversy on the grounds of being SOOO serene and uber civilized BUT- it can't be done. I know this is wildly arguable but it's just plain irresponsible to allow criminals to shelter there. It's chaos out there and we all pretty much have to take a stand somewhere. This would be it, where real national securities are at stake. This man is on Interpoles Wanted List for sexual assault in Sweden, in point of fact, so could easily be handed over as some sort of courtesy. You should hear the whining from his lawyer on the news, here-so sad! " This is a persecution, not a prosecution ". Boohoo. This lawyer will be earning his money, though, since how on earth does one defend the indefensable? It'll be interesting, if infuriating to watch.

When things like this happen I start looking around for what they're wanting to distract us from. I still wonder if he was allowed or even handed the the info.

Yep, all countries need to stop harbouring any type of criminal, cut all this petty bullshit legal crap with returning them to the country they offended, and just ship them off if they have been accused of a serious crime in a country, and they have some decent evidence to back up the claims... shutup I say and hand them over.

All Switzerland and such countries can say... is their entire country is one of criminals and corruption. Hmmm... one thinks of Romania at the top of the list... except in Romania they will shoot you as well.

Yep... that we where. Not quite the case any more though... in fact I think our history has tainted our own criminal system, where violent offenders don't get enough time behind bars nowadays. That is something I still like about the US legal system... you are tough for the most part on violent crime. Kill someone and you get life. Kill someone here and you get between 4 & 12 years.

In the the state of Texas if you kill someone they will kill you back! In cases where 3 or more credible witnesses testify to it you go to the front of the line,... no waiting!

Ah, don't get me started on the Death Penalty. So much misconception out there. Another case where unbiased reporting and sounds statistics to back the conclusions would really cause concern. But Right and Left spin it their way. Funny thing is, each side has an element of truth in their take, but it doesn't give a complete picture.

Complex issues rarely have a "black" or "white" conclusion. No one likes to deal with shades of gray. Also, no one wants to be honest about the existence of the gray.

Or maybe I am just "crazy", and spend too much time analyzing things any more :p

Wait a minute ITL, you mean there is a "gray" area out there? (sarcasm font) I think that being able to over analyze things sometimes keeps me from going too crazy.

I feel that in some cases our justice system serves just that, justice. But all to often it doesn't. Whether it be by letting a rapist out after 3 years, or not having the whole picture in mind when they throw the switch. I don't see how we as a country feel that we can pick and choose who is guilty/not guilty in the world when we haven't been able to make it an exact science at home.

There are far better ways we could toss around our military mite, then shelling a country even farther back into the 3rd world. Hell, why don't we ask China to back off Tibet, or where Gendun Chokyi Nima is? I fear it is because Tibet doesn't have much to offer the US in the way of oil or other goods. Or that we have tied our economy into China so deeply that if they cut us off we'd be like the bratty child whose daddy cancled the credit cards.

There is just too little communication in this world. As any of us who have had therapy knows, communication can be the only window into creating a stable living environment. That shouldn't have to stop at our front doors or places of work. Perhaps all our great world leaders should attend some group therapy together and figure out what the real issues are.

(Sorry, my brain seems to be a little scattered tonight. Hope that made some sense.)

Adam, 'Blue Collar Comedy'? Hahahahaha? Ron White had a POINT, too, although when I was listening to that on my DVD in the car I almost drove into a tree I was laughing so hard!!! Dubya's express lane saved Texas an awful lot of convict breakfasts.

Anthony, 4 to 12? Good grief?? Although it's not THAT much better over here, to be sure. What you do NOT see are the 'crimes of passion'. Ahem. The 4 to 12's you see here are the husbands killing their wives in one of those ( and do not please anyone take exception to that statement because I've seen it ) and children being beaten to death under the guise ( read 'plea' ) of whatever. Perhaps in recent years it's been a little better- not much and the sentences which were handed down from previous ridiculous rulings remain in place. If it takes place in the HOME, well- it's understandable, of course. You can't walk out of your house and slug, much less kill a stranger on the street, here. That would send you away for life or get you put to death, but beat your wife or kid to death? Poor guy- he was clearly under some sort of stress, had an awful childhood, his mother didn't hug him and the dog threw up on the carpet yesterday. We'd slap him on the wrist only that might hurt a litle too much so really, a few years in prison and then he'll be good as new.

The rulings over here really are that all over the place. Makes the top of your head want to pop off.

Not that I agree with Dubya because I don't. I did wish to make that clear, however funny Ron White is. :)
