Now we have TWO Supreme Court Justices that are proven sexual preditors.

^^But no... that's not quite right is it?

You have two people accused of being sexual predators. Nothing proven - not legally at least.

And this is probably worse?

Idk... When the accusation hasn't been through the normal process, evidence examined etc., and the perpetrators stood before a jury of their peers. Nothing is proven.

So the accusation can be dismissed as the wild assertions of a hysterical woman because her voice was drowned out.

The victim has not been afforded decency and respect and also not had her evidence examined calmly and thoroughly.

Nothing has been proven beyond reasonable doubt. Nothing - that's the problem here.

The process has occurred in the public gallery and in the media and big loud-mouth politician's and celebrity's have had a lot to say.

Nobody has referred this mess to a Court. To find the truth.

So now the people will have to deal with a SC Justice that will have a shadow over every decision he makes and there will be much less confidence in the integrity of the SC. The people lose.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

And this is the wonderful nature of our country...we are a nation who is ruled by our Constitution and Law outside of mob rule. If we are ruled by mob rule, we lose this privilege and lose our freedom. I am incredibly proud of our country. It is such a privilege to have the ability to vote. Please do, this November.

Well SC Justice's have their appointments for life... :banghead: I don't understand that. I don't think they should be a political appointment ever but that is your system.

I agree with voting. I live in a country where voting is compulsory and I totally agree - it should be! We get fined here if we don't.

My thoughts are if you are given a vote and you choose to pay a fine rather than exercise your democratic rights - don't whinge when the democracy begins to unravel.

Be part of the democratic process and encourage everyone you know and who is eligible to be part of it too.

Respect the process and participate.

If it begins to unravel despite participating and you care that much... join the process itself! :)

So very sad for my country. Head hanging, and shaking back and forth, tears hitting my tennis shoes....

Something I have to remind my son from time to time...

If people in the darkest and most violent regimes and dictatorships can retain a stunning sense of self? Living amazing lives full of passion, and joy, strength, and laughter? Whether they’re the kind of people film makers like (heroic dashing fighting the good fight blah blah blah), or the far more important kind of people that kiss you goodnight, and set your eyes dancing and mouth smiling? Don’t we have an obligation to live our lives to the fullest, too? Not spend them miserable, scared, angry, ashamed... just because of someone we don’t like that might make things hard, someday, for someone?

It’s mostly a form of catastrophizing, for him. He becomes so convinced of all the terrible things that “will” happen, that he completely misses out on all the wonderful things that are happening, or that could happen, if he hadn’t already given up.

It’s also a form of blame-shifting / self-defense mechanism. He didn’t vote the guy in, have anything to do with his rising to power, much less his day to day actions or decisions... but he wants to pretend he has some kind of control over a situation he doesn’t. So he blames himself. :banghead: And takes on guilt and shame and remorse (and anger and despair)... that doesn’t belong to him.

It doesn’t mean that local, national, & international politics aren’t important, or don’t affect us in myriad ways. Or that we shouldn’t fight for causes we believe in. But? When the illusion of control supersedes reality? That’s a much bigger problem than who is in power, and what they are doing. Not suggesting apathy, but perspective.

Crying in shame over what someone else did? Whether it’s an abuser who hit you, or a political leader’s actions... that ain’t your shame to bear, or carry, much less sacrifice your joy or your life for. Their actions? Their responsibility.

So I tell my kid? Live your life, as best you can. Take responsibility for that :D It’s where you’ve got skin in the game.

SC Justice's have their appointments for life... :banghead: I don't understand that.
<chuckling> I’m rather in favour of tenure, personally. Doesn’t remove bias, blackmail, or boorish behavior. But it’s the best way I know of to allow the possibility of independent thought & action, instead of being beholden to benefactors, or more interested in getting re-elected than ruling.
Have you seen our elections process? :wtf: Out of a 4 year term a minimum of 2 are spent actively campaigning, and the “smart” players start from the moment they’re in office. When you’re electing anyone in this country? You need to pay less attention to them, and more attention to their chief of staff & personal secretary. What their politics are. They’re the ones who are actually going about the day to day functions of the job. It’s sometimes worth taking note of the campaign manager, but most of the time they just go with the polling numbers. But you can get an idea for how they’re going to recommend the elected official vote, based on how they manipulate the public opinion with their other clients. I’d say maybe a 70/30 split. 70 the chief of staff/secretary, 30 the way the campaign guru likes to spin things to their advantage. Or maybe more 90/10. Depends on where in the election circus we are. Campaign manager gets more sway around midterm. It’s rare the electee’s opinion really matters. Even though, in theory, they hold the job.

Judges are generally the exception to this rule, because no one pays attention to them / their campaigns usually number in weeks instead of years, until we lose the power to vote them in. Then, all of a sudden, we seem to care a whole lot about who is on the bench.

In order to get to the appointee stage, they spend decades being voted into into various roles in the judiciary. So it’s not like our ambassadors, that no one outside of the political machine has any say in. Even if judges largely run unopposed and unnoticed. :meh:
