To ALL Veterans,
The Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) is piloting on online one-on-one "chat service" for veterans. The service is known as "Veterans Chat".It enables veterans, their families and friends to talk anonymously with a trained VA counselor.ALL veterans qualify whether they are enrolled with the VA or not.
The service is now available fron 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm (EST).If the counselor perceives the caller to be in need of further assistance, the veteran will be transferred immeadiately to the VA Suicide Prevention Hotline which is staffed 24/7 and can be reached at 1-800-273-TALK.
The chat line is:
mentalhealth.va.gov/suicide_prevention/
The VA is making access to mental health services easier through information technology, removing stigma barriers by making it anonymous,
and opening the services to non-enrolled veterans, families, and friends.
Often it is the vets loved ones or close friends that notice the differences to a veterans behavior.Sensing something is wrong, these individuals will now have access to this service, allowing them call, ask questions, and alert the right individuals to a potential problem and prevent a tradedy.
Peace and Hope...jefferylee
