@UpTillDawn That's all actually very similar to the repeating themes in my nightmares.Lots of nightmares about being out of control.
Being held down, or unable to breathe is a big one. Having a tube shoved down my nose. Being unable to breathe. Being trapped in a room. Sometimes that room, sometimes just a room.
The worst is being held in some sort of 'facility' (like a larger version of that room). All sort of awful things are happening to me, but no one else knows. I need to keep pretending to be 'normal' as it gets worse and worse, or I just know I'll never get out.
Mine unfortunately tend to be frickin' movies! They are SO detailed, continue for months, and often pick up right where the last one stopped. I'd say that half of my nightmares tend to be about the trauma, and then a fourth of them are related to the trauma, and the other fourth are just random terror things. The ones that are actually about the trauma are the worst and hardest to wake up from.
@TonyG I have a hard time with waking up after my worst nightmares and being able to tell the difference between reality and the dream.I only relive my trauma and wake up like I'm still there, it takes me a while to realise I'm at home in bed and safe, Then my anxiety kicks in and I can't do much that day.
I usually wake up completely frozen in terror, but sometimes I'll cry out and sweat and cry. Only once have I screamed out.
I've actually had a few that were so real and close to the incident that I've actually woken up having a flashback. Has anyone else experienced that?
