News Why It's So Hard To Talk To White People About Racism

It was a good call on the footballers behalf, however unfortunately the name caller ended up being a 12 yr old girl, who was consequently evicted from the match by burly security and then subjected to police questioning.
It was a bit bigger than this though. Adam Goodes turned football into a political stage for himself. Every time he kicked a goal, he would do an aboriginal dance. He got boo'd because he mixed his political stance that he was coveted by media, with his football. People pay to watch football, not politicking.

He tried using the aboriginal card for sympathy defence, when in fact there are plenty of aboriginal players in the AFL who are not boo'd. Why? Because not one of them bring the politics of being aboriginal into the game of football. Racism is one thing... and they all stand up to crowd members and have actions taken, but bringing the politics he did into a much loved, revered game of AFL... it was his own doing and downfall as a result.

If someone calls a racial slur, report them and have them removed, but don't start pulling out tribal dances that he isn't even affiliated with. They guy grew up in Adelaide and was city raised. He's not tribal and is only half aboriginal, his mothers side. He stepped over the mark and that is why he got boo'd and ultimately discriminated against for his stance. Don't mix football with your own agenda... simple as that.

I hope that this will all end some day I know it will not- if I hit the lotto I'll stay here because it's a mixed neighborhood and people get along. I'm not color blind as I find people if done appropriately do like acknowledgement of their ethnicity and culture but red, yellow, black and white is all beautiful and there's so much to learn and appreciate from other cultures.

He's not tribal and is only half aboriginal,

No offense but 'half Aboriginal', is not a lesser identity.
Playing this as stances on identity from the outside is tricky for so many reasons. Regardless of if one agrees with the behaviors associated with the identity / expressions of it, or not, that judgment of belonging isn't up to people outside of the cultures themselves to make.
/not Australian Native nations and not affiliated, so keeping my cakehole shut on this one, just 0.02.

Half aboriginal here, are often viewed by aboriginals themselves as "half casts" which in itself derogatory. I do agree, outside looking in is never going to be good, and it isn't for me to say... but the facts of what happened surrounding the specifics of this case are broader than a single event with a child being removed.

He used his status on the field to politick something, instead of keeping it off the field, like all other players do. He crossed the line and the fans responded. Football fans come to watch football, not politics of culture. He jumped over the line and pissed off the fans, then tried to use the aboriginal card that everyone who boo'd him was racist. In fact it had everything to do with his actions, not his race.

Here's a great example of White conservative, White Liberal and Black racism in one video a video uploaded by a viscious-Holocaust denying antisemite-clearly those girls are eloquent but they deserved to be immediately disqualified

This is the race card:

is this the sorta thing you're speaking of @anthony

Interestingly my 'half'aboriginal husband has the exact same stance as you do @anthony.
As does his father.
I think many aboriginals didn't like the grand standing aspect of Goodes approach.

I think any platform is an appropriate one to bring more awareness to aboriginal issues in this country, the statistics speak for themselves and Goodes does great things for his community with his fame

Sorry that this is a little out of context to the current flow.

I'm not sure what to make of this lady's facial expressions.

if the lady's point were extended, I guess that any game played with a bouncing rubber ball would be off limits to everyone other than first nation americans, and soccer and rugby would be off limits to anyone outside England, where the rules of the games were first codified.

- on grounds of cultural appropriation

and in the context of a college, who has the cultural heritage to be using Roman alphabet and Arabic numbers?

or does cultural appropriation only apply where there is "economic privilege"? and is there a time constraint? if so, what is that time constraint and why?

I take you now to an establishment of learning and free thought;):

@Anarchy

That argument is quite easily proven wrong, though.
Cultural appropriation is theft.
Being invited into the culture by the culture is cultural exchange and borrowing. It can enrich all parties present, not just one.

Cultural appropriation is a theft on identity & often the last things people have of their cultures.
Would you rob a person off their last belongings? Yes or no. It's quite straight forward.

Use of science through the centuries & academic exchange through the passage of time is not cultural appropriation.
Storming in with 'a right' to a culture is a different thing & violating. It's the difference in violation vs permission vs outright allowance & invitation that makes a difference.

I was lucky having seen the post. I was going to post about that.

That lady is powertripping. That's the facial expressions you're seeing. Positive while creating negative. Her brain is missing.
