And on the upside of that line?

^Sounds very utopian Friday. :) Of course all of that means that all of those people who benefit from the group follow some group rules. Individualism has taken a back seat to the greater good. At least in that little pocket of people.

I can definitely see the upside in other areas too.

People seem to genuinely care about their neighbours in most cases. :cautious:

And suddenly the concept of loneliness is not a shame job. All the reasons that existed before still exist, the virus has highlighted the degree, duration & depth that loneliness is plunging ordinary people into. Waking up to the concept of isolation and what that feels like for not just themselves but other people. And mental health is now front and centre of many government initiatives. It's considered a mainstream thing instead of a oh.. idk..a necessary in sociable element that kept nagging for funding & attention.

Also btw the cleanliness of it all. Schools, supermarkets and just other general places us humans work, play & habitat in.

It makes me wonder if any of these places actually ever got cleaned before the virus?

I've never seen so many people being so industrious when it comes to cleaning things. I always thought supermarket trolleys were amongst the most dodgy & dirtiest & it seems they are now getting a damn good clean with detergent stuff too. Wow?

Not in my entire life in grocery shopping which is now, unfortunately, a really long time, have I seen anyone ever clean supermarket trollies & benches etc.

And.. of course a whole generation has been reintroduced to the concept of washing your hands properly. Not just waving them in the vicinity of the trough. lol

The vast majority of scientists that I’ve known over the years have been profoundly spiritual/religious... and, as a collective whole, is where I came to understand that religion and science don’t conflict, because they answer 2 entirely different questions. Religion answers “Why?”. Science answers “How?” It’s only when one side attempts to answer the other’s question that we run into things like The Spanish Inquisition (Nobody expects that! )

My (very lovely) mother? Is NOT one of those scientists! :roflmao:

(And also how I came to know the spiritual practices and beliefs of so many high falootin science types! Arguments with my mom over dinner. We had fun dinner parties, but mostly because few members of my family could be considered “well behaved”. I’m also not entirely certain of my mom’s motives about arguing religion over dinner... because it almost invariably led to her having her weekends free... as those selfsame scientists would be taking her kids to mosque, temple, & church.)

All of which is a lead up to understanding EXACTLY WHY I am pissing my pants laughing my ass off, right now.

My -pure, and unadulterated, science- mother has taken to sewing masks. And has triumphantly found the “perfect” mask.

She’s embroidering “HAVE YOU ACCEPTED JESUS AS YOUR LORD & SAVIOR?l” on the front piece.

“FRIDAY!!! :woot: They’re the best! Everyone backs away! Thank you, Jesus!”

My mom. Pealing out “Thank you, Jesus!”. With true, heartfelt, conviction. People in hell must be breaking out their snowboards. SMH. One of my (very Christian) brothers is holding out hope that “Maybe this is God’s way of reaching her heart?”

Personally? I don’t think so.

She also answers telemarketer calls in “whale”.

LMAO... Not hardly.

But hard times bring people together, just as they drive them apart.

So much depends on luck, where one ends up standing. The bad probably outweighs the good. But there’s still damn fine and decent people doing their best. Together and separately.

I always love that bit of the story. Hell, yeah. Pull together.

Have you heard anything about standardized testing for this year?

I haven't. I just heard the news say that schools will be doing online learning for the rest of the school year per De Santis's order. Then they moved onto a different story.

I'll let you know if they say.

And on the upside of that line?

This is one of those economic divide things that happen both when people are quite wealthy & quite poor very easily/naturally... but the middle class would have to bend heaven and earth to accomplish it. Not impossible, by any means, “just” a massive kind of change of lifestyle that most people are very resistant to.

In many places? People are moving in together. Pooling resources, limiting exposure, bettering their lives by coming together, instead of risking them.

Not just private homes, but also some businesses.

One of the pubs I know downtown has about 50 people living in it, right now. Owner, employees, & their families. Parking lot has been fenced, wood chipped, and a play area set up for the kids. Rooftop garden. 2 people go out for supplies once a month, and then quarantine for 2 weeks after... although they’re hoping to get supply runs down to once every 3 months. They’ve completely relaid out the space to suit a large group of people living there full time, with both private and public spaces, a gym, school room... as well as outings/field trips by van to local farms and wilderness areas. The only people they’re around? Is each other. They were all/most of them living on the brink already, paycheck to paycheck, and when the virus hit? The owner was like... you know what? f*ck this. Let’s reorganise. <<< I have a girlfriend who used to work there / lives there now, which is how I know about it.

That's super cool of that owner to do that! It's nice to know those people aren't homeless.

It looks like the work at home at my job has stopped at 872. But that's still 872 of their computers, monitors (two so that's 872 times two for monitors), mouse, keyboard, 50 foot ethernet cords and 872 brand new power strips that they purchased just for this out there in the hands of the employees. That has to be millons of dollars of equipment on the line.

So I think many companies are bending to make things work.

ETA: A correcrional institute in Daytona has had 47 confirmed cases. They were saying before anyone got it that the employees dont have PPE. This is why they needed it! Sigh!

When we were kids washing the hands was a thing that’s it’s not anymore. We did not sit down at the table to eat before we washed our hands, and if we sat down mom asked us, “did you wash your hands?” and if you didn’t (if you told the truth lol) she made you get up. If you said yes, often she’d make you hold out your hands for inspection. It was a different world.

I want to take a little time out and thank you guys and say how much I appreciate this forum. I obviously have a different political view of the world than probably the majority of people here. It is difficult but not insurmountable. I feel safe here . Thank you.

A friend text me his mom died last night. She was very elderly in her 80s I think, but I’m not going to ask him. I also think she was in a nursing home facility but don’t know for sure. He said she “somehow got Corona Virus”. IDK what that means either, if she was tested or not, and obviously I’m not going to ask him.

We are good. We are safe and don’t feel at risk, and things have not changed except we are not going where they won’t let us go. The girls are home from their special needs day programs still, neither of which has any cv19 cases. I hope they’ll reopen soon as the girls really miss the social interaction and tend to regress without it. We continue our beach walks almost daily, right around 5 miles.

I'm really sorry to hear that, @Mach123.

Do you think any other parents in the group would be receptive to a "play date" on a video chat? I know it's not always a good platform for special needs kids, but perhaps? Do a craft project together?

Thank you! The job I had lined up is dependent on Florida's standardized testing. My guess is, they won't be doing it this year, which means I'll need to find something else. :-(

Yes! And I remember I used to go in the bathroom and run my hands under the water. LOL

It's a good place, isn't it? I'm finding that, next to my mom, this is the best place to stay in touch with people.

There is a daily video class for V. (Zoom) It’s very well attended and they do a great job. There are online activities for J, but not video classes. They are not as proactive. It’s a different level of clients and a different organization

Well. Now I'm personally affected. My son is on an army base . We were talking to him this weekend and he said he was run down and "sick". I used to get like that a lot . I'd get a cold then an ear or sinus thing . Then I'd go get an antibiotic. They are all up there and not much to do, lots of drinking and bs. Not eating right. Like kids that age, he's 24.

So he went in sick and naturally, they locked him up. Two weeks. He got the test for CV19. That's all the info I'll keep you posted. He said he feels "secure" and like they know how to take care of it.

Never a dull moment. : /
