Fibro and covid share a ton of symptoms, so the docs sent out a thing saying "how do you know which you have right now?" Basically they said to assume it's fibro unless you spike a fever. Then assume its covid. :rolleyes:

The now much maligned drug Hydroxychloroquine has been given a reprieve and studies are recommencing on it.

They'll make a movie on this one day. If you don't want to waste your life reading the article, in short, a small company who reported in the Lancet that they conducted a large world wide study, made claims in the Lancet that the drug caused several really bad side-effects and even death; has now been asked to substantiate the data that they claim, they used to report these unwanted and harmful effects.

The company has an 'adult content' model and a science fiction writer amongst it's several employees :hilarious: The mind boggles :wtf: And it seems now, after some real review of their capacity to conduct such trials that they probably didn't.

But a doctor - yes there might have been a doctor in this company after all - who helped co-author the report that landed as 'peer reviewed' in the Lancet, will now not hand over the data citing privacy issues.

The authenticity of this peer reviewed report became doubtful when a scientist, in Australia thought things were a bit fishy when the report claimed the death rate from use of the drug during covid19 trials in Australia was actually more than the total death toll from covid19 at that time, in Australia. And then a whole lot of other people started questioning the veracity of the claims contained in the report published in Lancet too.

It seems now that not much of the report is probably reliable. So back to the drug trials now according to WHO.

The article goes onto mention the reasons why the scientific community might have been easily rushed into acceptance of the study because it had a few high profile names attached. And everybody accepted it without actually peer reviewing it. So that should be a warning to be wary of haste when looking into these drugs. I hope so.

@Chris-duck really interesting to hear that. I had covid like symptoms for 2 months. Only had a temperature one time out of testing it almost daily.

Kept doubting I had covid because of the lack of temperature! Weirdly reassuring to hear you say that.

Busch Gardens and Seaworld (and it's multiple "sister" parks) are reopening June 11th and Disney is doing a phased reopening July 11th.

I saw that 75 year old man knocked over and bleeding from his ear? That shocked me.

So there's Aborginal Lives Matters protests organised for this weekend so I have been pleading with some Elder folks not to go. A lot of Indigenous communities shut down really early due to life expectancies of 50 which would be 70 in my case. Some people I know have to go into hospital for treatment. Now I am there myself I am not so scared. I washed my masks yesterday so I will wear that next Tuesday. I will make it through.

The statistics of the impact of Covid19 on Black Americans are sobering. Why aren't folks handing out masks at the protests. Why don't people understand Science? There's great similarities to Indigenous Australians.

At least in Australia there are plans to take boxes of masks and hand them out at the protests when I listened to the press briefing my anxiety went down quite a few notches.

I want Covid19 to be over. I know that is not reasonable or possible. But I want it over now.

I don't really understand the temp check thing. Like I've not met many covid positive patients who have had a temp. It's the weirdest criteria to me for public places. I'm sure it rules out a tiny amount of positive people. But in two months of a 28 bed covid ward, I've had one patient spike a temp.

Not a doctor or nurse, but I think when folks develop a fever it's more due to secondary pneumonia than to the initial COVID?

I know that when I was down with a high fever in April and I read a lot of first-hand experiences rather than just some guidelines, hardly anyone reported a fever, if at all most had a slightly elevated temp.

That being said, a couple of weeks ago a person was pulled out at our airport for a high temperature as the ONLY symptom, who then tested positive. And one of the few people who actually died in our place presented with just a fever and headaches as his only symptoms - only to then die from heart failure.

So, with all we're still learning of COVID, maybe it's depending on whether someone presents mainly pulmonary or rather cardiovascular symptoms? And the initial report of fever as a main symptom might just be due to a high rate of secondary pneumonia?

I've had double pneumonia 3 times, twice in one year and never had a fever with it. But maybe it's too much viral load which kicks off the immune response more. I'm wondering if it's the amount of viral load. I am one that rarely gets a fever with any illness. But a fever is an immune response. It's your immune system fighting the virus and you get a fever because it's harder for viruses to survive in warmer temps. So that tells me that the more viral load you have, the more immune response you will have and a fever is more likely to occur.

Not sure why some gets fevers and some rarely do, like me. As far as I am aware, I don't have a compromised immune system or anything. My normal body temp is also lower. Around 96 degrees F, but when I say fever, I'm meaning anything 99 degrees F or above. Not sure if that has anything to do with anything though.
