You Know You Have PTSD When...

Wow. I'm speechless.

You are very welcome. When my father said that, I was kind of speechless too, even though I was not certain at the time that he was admitting guilt. It was confusing, because when I asked if he was aware of it (and I was asking my mother too), I didn't know if he even knew or not. My mother covered for him by saying that she thought I was trying to tell them something. In other words, she knew too, but I am pretty sure that when she found out, SHE put a stop to it, because it stopped when I was 6 years old, thanks be to God!!!

You know you have ptsd when you're looking online for some poster to put on the walls of your room. And while you choose carefully some nice new pictures, you got every now and then a reminder on the screen, that you already bought this or that particular picture last year... But you don't have any clue when you should have bought those things, and were you put those poster you've already bought...

It's very often like this for me... Sometimes I find "strange" things, e.g. face care products, a new electric kettle, eBooks on my e-reader (!), bed-linen in my linen board! And my best friend always has to tell me, that I bought them myself and for myself. And then she helps me to look into my mailbox where the online shopping bills and PayPal receipts are.... It's very difficult for me, and often I cry, while we do those researches...

Although I obviously never buy needless things, I'm shocked every time I have to deal with such "strange" objects. I'm so ashamed about this... :sorry:

Don't be ashamed or sorry either! Thanks for the reminder and letting me know that this is why I find strange things I cannot recall having bought or having received as gifts around my house! I have many. I did not realize this was a PTSD thing! It makes perfect sense though, so thanks again, really! I needed to know this.

Isolation is another part of PTSD. You spend a lot of time in isolation, because it feels safe. At the same time you hate it, because you're so alone. So you go out where there are a lot of people, lets say a shopping mall. You sit there and watch all the people coming and going. Despite the fact that the place is crowded, you feel alone.

What do you do, you go back home where you feel safe, in the isolation that you hate.
