You Know You Have PTSD When...

When you scan your window coverings to insure there are no gaps for passer-bys to see through. When you doggingly insist how the rod must fit into the window base to insure protection and the top part must also have a rod to keep someone from jiggling it up & popping the window out.

When you are so insistent in your room to your son, that your next room over roommates( two men) purchase protection the next day...as 'you' must know something is afoot! *I heard them adjust their windows the next night. :hilarious:

When you consider putting on your bedroom door...*Beware - PTSD Attack Animal

I can't wait to show my husband that I am not the only one who does this. He thinks windows are meant to be left open. I will never understand how people can leave their curtains open, especially at night. You drive by at night and can see their big screen T.V. and other expensive items because the light is on. That is just advertising to burglars as far as I am concerned.

When you have recently moved and have an awkward path from the front door to the living room of unpacked boxes, and you start thinking how you would like to keep it that way, because an intruder would assuredly trip and fall in the dark, making lots of noise to alert you.

@Fadeaway ...OMG

One reason I've spent most of adult life on 2nd, 3rd, or 4th floor apartments. Less an easy target. Yet at night still don't want anyone seeing in. Makes PTSD worse. Street level once....uh never again.

Yet I love open air living....

When you try to make a tongue-in-cheek thread, sort of like this one on another site, and someone decides to wax lyrical about it, taking it seriously, thus everyone takes it seriously and gets upset and condescending. Then you leave the site because you are so angry that they made you a villian that you want to flame them. Then you rejoin because you want to stick up for yourself.

@DharmaGirl ...(((hugs)))

Many of us are a tightly wound bunch under a lot of stress. I have used wording within communication a few times that hurt someone's feelings because of the various cultures, language translations and my errors as well. I try to make amends or clarify but if the other party wishes to take offense as many of us are a triggering bunch...then I am sad but try to remember not to repeat my mistake if it was indeed my error.

I have watched a few people (staff and members) give me the benefit of the doubt and allow me to clarify, then forgive me. I think among us that is one of our kindest gifts... our attempt to walk among each other with compassion + understanding.

You know you have PTSD when trusting is hard and feeling accepted takes so long. I am learning to trust and not go rapid fire to the worst case scenario. I think I will have it down before the next 5 years...lol
