Yes I'm with you @scout, me neither. I did know they could come up (such as triggers of course.)

you express sadness and people try to make you feel better"....... I'm not buying that one just yet, but I guess it's a nice thought. (It's a lot easier to associate "sadness" with "I'LL give you something to cry about young lady!!!" :inpain:

Same. I actually didn't 'get that' until people explained it here!

Maybe you're actually not the most messed up person in the room when it comes to this. :clown: Maybe you are actually more aware of your emotions and how they work that some of the rest of us.

Oh I seriously doubt that. I guess its when I was able to shed the rage, the feelings I felt behind it and the ones I knew was there at the core but couldnt go near as it was too intense but I knew they were there. Intense sadness & pain & fear & even rage. Then was thrown into that "lake" of super intense emotions, rage keeping me "safe".

I dont know, i know they are there and I know its notmal for people to have emotions. Its not like non-traumatized people are emotionless. So i dont know. Not so aware of my own but the knowledge that they are all there and are all mixed up like someone shook my snow globe of emotions.

Its the someone emotionally hurt me kind.
Totally serious here. I have pretty much no idea what you're talking about.

You mean like someone's mean to you? I don't experience that as something I think of as "pain". Although I guess I use the expression "that hurt my feelings". But I don't think of it as "pain".
Oh I seriously doubt that.
Yeah? I know that the idea that you may not be the totally most messed up person in the whole world, in every way possible is a bit hard to take in, but you might want to get used to the idea because it's true.

Oh wow @BlueOrange I still don't see the connection between sadness & social support?

When the main character cries, her family supports her. Not exactly consistent with my experience, but that's the most visible part of what I think he was getting at. I guess the message for me is "When you cry, it's a way of signalling that you need help. The fact that you didn't get help when you cried is not because there's something wrong with you, but because there was something wrong with your situation."

You honestly dont know what emotional pain is? Something to bring up at therapy as I believe pain is rather normal and also rather needed.

No, I have pain about my past (intense), I have pain when I think about my past (intense), emotional pain leads to cutting to dumb it. When its intense enough I feel physical pain because of it in my chest, my stomach, and going down one or both arms (sometimes so much that Im doubled over). Its why when little kids are upset they complain of a sore tummy, emotional pain.

You have emotional pain when someone close to you dies, when you've very loved pet gets hit & killed by a car, when a loved spouce leaves you.
