News Trump Suggests That Soldiers Who Suffer From Ptsd Aren’t “strong”

I haven't any comment from any democrats about the remark. So far, I've heard it quoted a few times in reports on the event. CBS just mentioned that, for years veteran's groups have tried to remove the stigma from getting PTSD.

I saw the article. My opinion... he's an idiot, and Clinton can't be trusted. I wished that both parties would have stepped in long before this and found a way to get rid of both of them. I work for people that have families overseas and they are laughing at us. I'm embarrassed to be living here.

Trump should just keep his pie hole shut. Every time he opens his mouth, he steps in shit.

Snopes is a left leaning fact check site. They had an even fuller transcript of it here: Donald Trump Didn't Say Vets with PTSD Are 'Weak'

The question was actually about faith based services to reduce veteran sucide rates. I actually disagree with snopes and believe he did try to imply they are not strong. He was talking about the people in the room being strong and not needing help and others who "can't handle it."

If I was in a room of health and fitness people and someone asked me about doing something to reduce the number of eating disorders in the fitness community, a subject I'm not an expert on, I wouldn't talk about the people in the room being strong and able to handle it while many others not being able to handle it and providing the other people services.

Some in that room may struggle too! And it doesn't make them strong or not.

This isn't the first time he totally misunderstood veterans and PTSD.

Trump in the past as talked about dating being his Vietnam. Trump In 1993 On Dating And STDs: "The Equivalent Of A Soldier Going Over To Vietnam"

“You know, if you’re young, and in this era, and if you have any guilt about not having gone to Vietnam. We have our own Vietnam. It’s called the dating game.”

Trump isn't exactly known for handling mental health issues well.

“I feel that the gun-free zones and, you know, when you say that, that’s target practice for the sickos and for the mentally ill,” he said at the time. “They look around for gun-free zones.” (Donald Trump Says Gun-Free Zones Are 'Target Practice for Sickos') Studies have shown again and again people with mental illness are 5 times less likely to commit acts of violence than those without mental illnesses. My comment is absolutely not about gun control. I do not appreciate being lumped in with "sickos" thankyouverymuch.

Then there is the time he shamed a woman for admitting a struggle with mental illness in his reality TV show: Donald Trump to the Mentally Ill: You’re Fired

I could go on and on with examples... but I'll spare everyone here. ;) :D

My point is simply that his comments are more than sloppy wording about PTSD.

The last thing this country needs is more shame and stigma around having a mental health problem.

I've got to say, though, where I come from, to say "you can't handle it" to someone it's kind of itchin...
yeah, that's the thing. He had good intentions and meant no disrespect, but wording things so poorly could have serious implications.

I think I've made my thoughts about him pretty clear in other threads. I have a hard time believing he's that stupid, but maybe he is. But well intended? That was me, trying to be more fair than I really want to be. The other thing that's been eating at me a little is we're being lectured on 'toughness' by a guy who's idea of making sacrifices for his country is running his business and making lots of money. (I don't remember the exact quote. I think it came up in the aftermath of his verbal exchange with the Gold Star father. Someone asked him about his own sacrifices for his country and he basically said he thought that living his comfortable, extravagant life style was a 'sacrifice'.

Sometimes I have to admire Donald for his mastery of the side step. So many of his statements can be taken one way as a stand alone statement and another way in context with the full statement, maybe even another way if you analyze the sentence structure or the double negatives or the variations in meaning afforded by the just plain poor development of ideas within a statement.

Love him or hate him, he has developed a new way to non-communicate and is taking it to a high level of effectiveness.

From the full context of the quote, you can argue that people with PTSD couldn't handle it, the people in the room (I would assume some of them are sufferers) are stronger, and that he wants to do more with robust and proper care.

I would say he has further alienated those he has already alienated and strengthened his position with a room full of supporters.

Hoo-boy.

strengthened his position with a room full of supporters.

My dad litterly bows down to him. I dont much believe stuff in the christian bible but this, this is the closest Ive ever seen to an "anti-christ" and its freaking me out! Trump can do no wrong, if i dont vote for Trump i shouldnt vote at all my dad says (which he has never said something like that before) and i told my dad that I may vote for Clinton (and i dislike her as well) and he flipped out on me. I told him it was American right to vote for whom I wish but he waant having it. Its scary!

In a vote for the lesser of two evils, you are still voting FOR evil.

In a vote for the less harmful, you're still voting FOR harm.

Voting for it implies that you consent to it.
Just sayin.

Sorry but this smacks of implicit bias to me and is highly perceptual and is not fact based and because 5 or so people liked it I find disturbing:
I've got to say, though, where I come from, to say "you can't handle it" to someone it's kind of itching for a fight. Where I come from, that remark DOES imply weakness

Geeeeeeezzzzeee. What a perceptual bias.
