I've only told a handful of people and for good reason.

"You were in the army??" Hah no
"I don't think you have PTSD". Oh thanks I'll let the doctors know the good news
"You just need to put it all behind you" gosh I wish I thought of that
"You just need to get out there and live, give you life some meaning" f*ck you.

Yeah so I don't tell people anymore.

Some people laugh or make fun when I tell them what mine is from. They apparently think it's only for people who went to war

@USER=6630]ClairBear226[/USER],

One way to tell a faker (other than those who confess self-diagnosis)...

Hmm not always true, at least in my case. I tell everyone about my PTSD. I find it therapeutic. No shame. No need to hide it. I even mentioned it to women I have tried to pick up at a bar. Sometimes I got looks like "are you insane" and sometimes I got some understanding comments. I got a phone number from a woman who had panic attacks.

Want to know something really insane? I told my sister that I have PTSD. She said I should just "get over it".

And she's a Psychologist.

Oh snap - ish. I havnt actually told my sister the diagnoses but did tell her I had been in trauma therapy for things that happened and got the same reaction. And mine is a therapist too!

As a supporter I feel like it's misunderstood and I'm sure it's not meant to be in a rude or cruel way but when you think you "know" something, the day changes, the mood changes and the "figured it out" shit gets thrown out the door.

One sufferer suffers so differently then the next. And if one can't identify, comprehend or even explain to themselves what's going on - how do you explain it to someone else?

Because I talk one way with someone, is it acceptable to have that same convo with someone else? It's hard to know what's acceptable. What's crossing the line, what works for you - or you or you.

I'm still learning!

I had to smirk about this picture because it sums up my life. Do we go, stop, cautiously move forward...
