I retired from the CF in 99 and immediately began a "Charlie Sheen" lifestyle that resulted, a couple of years later, with my pic appearing on the evening news. The story was not about good citizenship. I knew I needed to get help. That began a 10 year search that has led me here. I'm currently doing CBT at an OSI clinic. Shrink said that being part of a team investigating mass graves in Bosnia in 97 was the tipping point that began my slide into full-blown PTSD. Those dreams are the worst ones. Many days, I feel that normalcy is something that I'll never know again.

Glad you found us Steve and hopefully this will become a new team for you. Your pic and ref to a "Winning!" lifestyle made me laugh. Welcome and hope you find some useful resources here. (y)

Glad you made it here Steve. The good news is that it does get better. Then worse, then better...wash rinse repeat. But with each repeat the betters get a little better, the worses get less bad... Normal on the other hand. What the hell is that?

Yes, the better, worse, better.... part I understand all too well. Just wish it didn't happen so quickly. The slightest thing can make my whole day go "sideways". CBT is helping. Reading posts by others on here is helping me understand my symptoms better. I'm on a waiting list to join a PTSD self-help group, run by the OSI clinic, this fall.

Welcome Steve. Got a few of my own they don't go away I just deal with them better.

I describe my military dreams to my adult children and friends in terms that they can easily grasp...I use authors or movie directors to describe the intensity, themes and panic. Tim Burton dreams are weird, cartoon-like, often involving flying through the air, Quentin Tarantino dreams are ones that are f*cked up, sometimes comical, always "interesting". Stephen King dreams, on the other hand, are the worst. They result in the end of sleep for the night. Meds have helped.

I used to drink a fifth of whiskey to go to sleep. That was normal to me at the time. Normal is what you make it.
Welcome to the forum, your among friends.
