New Here
Hi. I am a mild sufferer and am a supporter of a CPTSD war veteran spouse. I say mild sufferer because I am not diagnosed and compared to my husband, I can maneuver life with more ease. I am here for ideas to help my marriage and understand better, as, over time, life has become unmanageable between both of us. I would love to talk to someone that can maybe navigate me a bit. Nice to meet you all.

Hi Danu1977, welcome to the forum. We are all here to help support you. Hope you’ve taken sometime to read around the forum and please ask questions.

I've never met anyone of this description. Lots of people believe it about themselves, but none of them believe it accurately
It’s far more common than severe, actually, but all 4 (or 5 depending on country) designators exist: Asymptomatic, mild, moderate, & severe (& extremely severe).

Whilst many people tip up to severe/extremely severe for at least a short while... Since the entire point of trauma therapy is to manage symptoms downward to get as close to asymptomatic as possible? You’ll find the vast majority of people with PTSD in treatment scaling down the spectrum, and then a huge number of people with untreated PTSD who are still managing to keep their symptoms largely in check via coping mechanisms & stress management <<< That second group are -to be fair- often ticking time bombs; just a stressor, new trauma, or loss of coping mechanism away from a major blowout... but they often manage for years and decades with only the occasional peek under the still surface to turbulent waters below. But its more common than not for people to manage on their own for years -even decades- that 20/20 hindsight clearly shines a light on mild symptoms -and even the occasional large spike, brought swiftly under control- always being there.

Places that specialize in PTSD -like here- are overrepresented on the severity scale (most people being in the severe range), because people don’t usually seek help until things are bad enough to be beyond what they can manage on their own. It’s a sampling issue. Like asking how many people in church are Christian, doesn’t translate to say how many people in the world are Christian.

I've never thought of it this way but you're right.
