What Did You Eat As A Child?

I usually ate corn flakes for breakfast and then made my own lunch for school, which comprised of a capri-sonne, a bag of chips, and two slabs of white bread with cheese. I always was so jealous of the kids that had all the yummy food filling their lunch boxes.

Thanks for the thread. Made me think again... I still love corn flakes for breakfast, but I couldn't bear to be giving my kids that for lunch...And I have a hard time feeding myself as well.

When I was really young, we always had cold cereal for breakfast. Never the good sugar cereals. We also had Hamburger Helper a lot. My mom didn't have a lot of money and she could afford the Hamburger helper. I can't stand the stuff now.

When my mom re-married and had more money, she would make us breakfast every morning. I would have eggs or pancakes, or whatever, a small glass of orange juice and a slightly larger glass of milk. Those were good breakfasts!

My mom was a genius in the kitchen and the garden because she grew up with so little. We weren't very well off when I was little so oatmeal was a staple, but dinners always involved a scary trip to the basement to retrieve a jar of her preserves - I especially loved the pickled beets!!

We always ate very healthy, although food was used as a punishment. Many a time I went without dinner. Force fed liver at times, and if my mother got angry my meal got thrown. I often went without lunch, because it was my job to make it, and if mum was angry I left for school quickly.

From a young age it was my job to cook during the week and have it ready when mum got home from work.
