Isn't supervision supposed to stop therapists in this situation being let loose on clients?

I bet they behave themselves under supervision and let loose when alone with a client.

I have experienced this.

I think it is common with all mental health issues as well as serious illness such as Aids and cancer. thank god there are a few people who understanding.

I do not care who knows I have PTSD and who doesn't nor do I care how they react any more. It used to bother me but I have learned that so long as I know who I am as a person and like being myself, so long as my husband and sons know and love me still, it does not matter. I smile at them and shake my head at their ignorance but it does not knock my confidence the way it used to. If they are interested I give them the full picture of what PTSD is and how it affects a person. I even draw them the PTSD cup!

I agree Cath. It really just speaks volumes about a person if they feel that they have to judge someone who's been traumatized.

Sounds like serious burnout. Isn't supervision supposed to stop therapists in this situation being let loose on clients?
Yes, Hashi, it should be like that, but the reality is much more like this:
I bet they behave themselves under supervision and let loose when alone with a client.
Yes, that's the way most of them handle it. :( A few years ago, one so called trauma specialist told me: "WHY should I go for supervising? It's all optional because I'm a self-employed person. So I don't give a damn and surely won't spend some money for such an unnecessary expense?!"

The truth is that most experienced therapists don't get supervision from what I know. The other problem is that they will only get to discuss a fraction of what occurs in therapy. And what they discuss depends on what they bring up in supervision. So what I have thought is that if the client isn't throwing their toys out of the cot and it really is a blind spot for the therapist that they are unlikely to discuss it.

And when someone is as arrogant as this dude then they probably are not getting supervision! Does anyone even know the general guidelines for psychiatrists? I don't.

Unfortunately I know a few people quite well over the last years who have been training as T's and it is ... enlightening.... to hear what goes on.

These are the responses I have had on telling others,

There isn't such thing don't be silly.
You need help your crazy.
Get over it.
Get on with your life (screamed at me by a doctor).
Not this nonsense again.
Fuss you make you only got abused.
Your traumatic stuff was years ago.
Your making it up.
I am not talking to you again as your mad.

So you can imagine now keep stuff to myself, its not worth the hurt that speaking out causes.

I had a neurologist tell me once after a particularly bad migraine which left me paralysed for a week that I was attention seeking and just wanting a rest.. Migraine came on due to emotional stress I might add..

I have had a friend tell me that all of that happened when you were a child, and you are an adult now so you have a choice as to how you behave..

Like I can stop a flashback from coming or stop an intrusive memory from entering my head, or choose not to have this. I mean REALLY!!

Oh, well at least you are coping -- No I don't think I am at the moment..
