Intrigued. I understand that you're not necessarily talking about sleep, but I've needed a lot of weight to sleep.

I've always needed a ton of heavy coverings over me in bed. Since I was a child in winter I sleep with three duvets or even four, and one of many things I dislike about summer is that the bedcoverings need to lighter. I try to keep at least one duvet, but when it's really hot I at least have a thick cotton sheet but wish I had more. My Dad says, if I can move I haven't got enough blankets.

Recently, I've noticed that I've needed this less and less. I used to have so many bedcoverings that I almost always had to stick my feel out to cool down a bit. Now, I have much lighter coverings and my feet tucked in. This might sound trivial, but it's a big change and I see it as a shift.

One of my go-to self-soothing strategies is to get under covers. As usual, the more weight the better. So this makes a lot of sense to me.

Does it have to be an expensive, specially made one? Can't you just pile up layers of duvets?

I have found that the weighted product provides more direct deep pressure than just blankets would.

In the summer we have a cotton quilt, sort of antique, that is quite suitable even for warm temps. It's not really heavy, but heavy enough. I absolutely can't sleep with just a sheet or with nothing. I also need to have clothing cover my body when I sleep, especially lower body.

I have a small weighted blanket that would be like, a bed blanket for a little person it's maybe 3-4 feet long, and almost square. I can throw it over my lap, or on my torso, or wear over my shoulders, or curl up in a ball and lay underneath it. If I were to try and use blankets or duvets to get the same weight, it seems like it would be unweildy. The one I got, it is for a child so it's smaller. I won it at an auction, I paid $75 for it. It's made of individual pockets that bean bags go into, and the pockets close with velcro. So it's possible to remove all the beanbags and wash the blanket. I feel it was well well worth the investment. I consider it medical equipment for me. Since I don't want a large bed-sized blanket, it worked for me, and the price didn't feel prohibitive. I think it was handmade by someone who donated it for the charity auction.

I have one and love it. However Rory hates it.

I bought my one online from Canada. With hindsight that was not the wisest move. I took that route because it was cheaper than via specialist shops in the UK. However, there were numerous problem with the post and delivery. It was made to order and literally arrived a year after I ordered it, and I had to pay a fortune in customs fees before UK customs would release it to me. Getting it locally would have been quicker and cheaper.

However, I don't regret purchasing it. I find it very comforting.
If I can understand how it looks/is constructed, I could probably make one.
It is a simple construction of a quilt. However in each of the squares are a certain number of heavy weight plastic beads. My one weighs a total of 10pounds spread throughout the quilt. When I ordered it I was asked if it was for an adult or child as they adjust the weight accordingly. It is machine washable - but not to tumble dry as it would possibly melt the beads!

I use mine on top of the conventional duvet, however it could be under it instead.

Instead of the new phenom of "weighted blankets" I have for years combined the tactile sensation of a very soft blanket with weight. The perfect combination for me exists in two brands of blankets. Each of the blankets weighs 14 pounds for a queen and 15 pounds for a king. They are ultra-soft and I cocoon myself in up to five of them every night. Using layers, I can add or remove based on the temperature. The key benefit for me is that I have learned to immediately be grounded and safe when I wake from a nightmare, which is every night.

I have always, since I was very young (maybe 5?), found the comfort of weight on me. I still use it to this day to fall asleep. If my dogs are on my legs or I put pillows on my body, it helps comfort me. The more cocooned I feel, the better. Thank you for your post.
