News Count Me As Grateful For The Changes Coming In Us Health Care

Religious freedom is not the same as the freedom to impose your religious views on other people.

My religious views are being imposed on when I am FORCED to pay for something that I consider morally reprehensible. You want to go have an abortion? Do so. But don't make me partially responsible by making me pay for it. Don't impose your religious views on me.

Yeah, I don't know why I considered that you to be *one of those*. You are clearly one of those. I'm assuming you're older then 40 as your world view is one recognizable as that of a dying breed.

And certainly anyone over 40 should NOT be listened to!!! H-m-m-m-m, that would be half the population....

Nazi Germany knew better than to listen to the Jews.

White settlers knew better than to listen to the Native American and the Indians.

By all means, do not listen to a minority. It has served us so well in history.

I can't for the life of me grasp why it is cheaper for me to get an individual policy through this exchange than it would be for my employer to get group insurance and pay half my premium. If my employer chooses to offer the group plan it will cost about $385 a month. But a individual plan would run about $135. Same plan! How does that even make sense? My employer wants to offer insurance, but by doing so would force me to pay a higher premium for insurance. It just doesn't make sense to me and seems far too complicated. My frustration level is very high and so is my disappointment.

Dear Mr. President,

You said that you would NOT increase taxes. You also said that this new health plan would NOT be paid for by increased taxes. Mr. President, just because YOU refuse to CALL a tax a tax does not mean it is not one. Please explain these tax increases to me that are suppose to support the changes involved in this new health plan, and tell me how they are NOT a tax: Link Removed

The government is in a partial shut down over these very tax issues and the spending that seems to have no roof. Yet, Mr. President, once again YOU say that the health plan is already partially funded. Yet without these tax increases, it will NOT be funded. Seems to me that the new health care IS a substantial part of the division that has caused this shutdown. How then can you insist it not be a part of the whole deal?

I wonder, what are you really trying to accomplish here?

My skepticism and distrust increases daily!

Senator Jeff Sessions (R, Alabama) has been consistent in his comments and is an unsung hero in the Dead Link Removed as is Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn (sadly clips of his remarks aren't available).

President Obama has historically attempted to close, in my own state 1000 plus nautical miles of the ocean "because of the shutdown". The boat captains and commercial fishermen vote... along with the National Parks service antics... the Dems and our pres... well they look like a bunch of babies having a temper tantrum. Some comic relief from Sooper Mexican

The House holds the power of the purse. They are equal to the Senate, the President and yes, even the Supreme Court. I think that rather than name calling, our representatives need to consider negotiating eh?

Me? Shut the bitch down... I'd rather consider default.

There is a saying that once Nazis or Hitler gets evoked the argument is over because it's obviously seriously dwindled. I wasn't saying 40+ year olds have nothing to contribute I was just saying that there is a certain mentality that is found within certain age groups that is on its way out. I get frustrated myself because I'm approaching that age group and I am thrilled at the demographic shifts (as they call them) that are occurring but I just think people my age and older are standing in the way of progress. I think right wing anger is sort of an older generation trait.

I just see a lot of ideology getting in the way of reason and rationality. For example when it's said that we are backtracking when we embrace improvements in healthcare while most developed nations have a health care system that is higher functioning then the US. What, are we on are way to backtracking until we become like god-forbid Norway or something? Sorry for the sarcasm but I just think younger people are less scared of things for the sake of ideology and maybe less prone to believing propaganda and more willing to deal with things in a rational manner. Or maybe it's the internet age that's made people less susceptible to propaganda. Some of the things I've heard people say sound like nothing but propaganda. I think the point about cost is a constructive point. It's really a joy to read something that makes sense. Even criticism that makes sense is a joy to read.

I think something happened to make us get high on anger and infighting. I think younger people have so many different form of mental stimulation anger doesn't speak to them the way it spoke to us. The average fox news or even CNN viewer is how old? I think we're the split screen generation. I think anger (even political) can be very simulating but I'm glad that anger isn't sexy or alluring to the younger generation. We came from a time that found Rush Limbaugh popularity. Perfect illustration of the type of person that used to appeal to us. I'm an angry politic-er myself but just don't like when ideology trumps reason. I probably get higher on political anger then the younger generation though. And I myself am on the way out.

Heidi, your 2 comments stood alone and was an ad hominem. Waffling around when someone calls you out on it, claiming that someone said Nazi or HItler so the "argument is over" is a total cop out. You opened the door.

Reason and rationality would lend itself to the economic solvency of our country... not dispensing entitlements it can't afford.

Old clip from an Illinois doctor during the Romney campaign on Obamacare... One big run on sentence, but it pretty much sums up my take:

I am being REQUIRED to pay for something I view as taking the life of an innocent child.
We live in a pluralist society. Pacifists are required to pay for our military. Home schoolers are required to pay for public schools. And Christian Scientists, who eschew much of modern medicine, are required to pay for many of those very practices.

You simply make the choice for yourself, and leave others to make choices for themselves. No plan, intended to cover a whole population, is going to meet all of any one group's desires.
