Hang in there gal. It takes from 4 to 6 weeks to work it into your system. In pretty sure you'll really notice the stability then. You'll still have good days and bad days but they'll be no better or worse than a " normal " person ( whatever that is lol) does
I have PTSD and have been dealing with it for 30 years. My wife has a personality disorder and her meds weren't working so they tried something new and it threw her into blackout psychotic episodes. While in an episode she'd exhibit behaviors that tripped every trigger for me and sent me into a...
This is a great forum for some support. I am now and always will be one who suggests group therapy. Finding people who are physically there for you. Someone you can call and meet for a cup of coffee. Someone to go out and laugh with that really knows where you're coming from.
Your mom just might...
Boy.... I'm probably going to get stomped on for this by a few folks but.....
Is he doing anything to treat PTSD? Any kind of therapy even so much as to find a site like for some support and understanding? You can't be his only source. You're emotionally and intimately involved with him. That...
Ya.....definitely check into the chemistry aspects cuz that can have as much effect as trauma itself.
Must be nice to not have to deal with insurance. Obama care is an utter joke
I don't know how people really see the USA. Our citizens are awesome!!! Our government? Welp.... Let's just say...
Very well written message. Being able to open up is hard. You did open with details and most don't. That's a very very good sign and lends to real progress when you start therapy. Please remember that you need to feel very comfortable with your therapist and it's okay to change therapists to...
It was that shrink that nailed it down and got me off my cocktail and onto lamotrigine alone. With the occasional xanex for anxiety but I rarely needed it and in a .5mg dose. Heck.....sometimes I even broke the xanex in half. If the lamotrigine isn't getting the effect you need you may want to...
Did want to add something here. I decide to go all out and all in with therapy. A full year with an appointment with my shrink every week and going to group therapy one day a week as well. That's why I'm stopping the lamotrigine. My shrink and I totally agree that we should try no medication for...
Body chemistry yeop yeop yeop. I'm getting off lamotrigine. Been on it for 10 years and it did wonders .In my case though if I missed a dose within 2 hours I was almost having a panic attack. I do hope your not going to reactions with your other meds.
I would fully agree with "shopping around" for a psychiatrist. You must feel comfortable and trust that person. Insist on getting blood work done. There may be a chemical imbalance causing symptoms and traumatic events blowing them up.
I'm going to go out on a limb here. I don't feel Anthony is...
Glad to see you found this site.
Yeop.... As the others have said, PTSD is pretty much life long. I've had it over 25 years myself. Certainly go back into therapy. For myself, group therapy helped tremendously. Xanex can help with the panic attacks but be very very careful with benzos. They're...
If it wasn't for her ability to truly relate her life to mine I really doubt I'd be off meds. At the same time my ability to do closely related my life to hers has allowed her to stop taking some of her meds as well. She'll always need the abilify unfortunately but our love and true...
Thanks.... My wife has a pretty bad personality disorder. Our insurance didn't want to cover abilify and so her doctor switched her medication. Since everyone doesn't react the same on meds..... Ooofta! She was blacking out and verbally attacking me. Threatening to leave, accusing me of all...
I guess I should clarify that this is one aspect of my PTSD diagnosed by 2 psychiatrists in 2 different states. The second diagnosis came before the doctor had received my records and I didn't mention it to him. The divorce and kids are more of "the straw that broke the camal's back"
I've had...
Yes I have been diagnosed with PTSD. I think the marital and kids trauma affect my overall detachment when it comes to my wife. She is everything I ever wanted and more. We have both had very traumatic lives and share the same types of trauma and at the same ages when they happened. It's safe to...
Okay... So I've had the therapy one on one and group and a lot of it. I can reach out and help others with PTSD. My compassion and empathy have grown tremendously over the years. The biggest cause of my PTSD was having two ex wives disappear with my kids. I wasn't abusive to them and was no...
I would suggest finding someone to discuss the details with. As long as they're inside they will remain there. It's worth a shot at least. Will it work? PTSD is PTSD regardless. I've suffered from it myself for 30+ years as well. So will it work? Wish I could paint some rosy red picture.... Say...
I agree with what others have said about telling your therapist. I guess the real question would be if you feel comfortable telling her/him. I've suffered from PTSD for over 20 years and have had enough therapy to enjoy a semi normal life now. I learned long ago that you must have a therapist...
