Hello everybody out there:)

I usually do the reading and not the posting so I figured that I will give back something to the many many people that have given me hope and ideas for my symptoms. This is my first post here on this forum. I am a 39 year old female and have been suffering from PTSD and trauma related symptoms all of my life. Sometimes it was better ( less anxiety) than other times, but it has always been there. Body memories, anxiety, isolating myself from others. My family was always very much against medications so It always worried me. My Doctor prescribed Lexapro when I explained anxious feelings I was having ( chronic headaches, light sensitivity, stomach upset, anxiety, avoidance) etc. etc. I was hesitant, but decided to give it a try. It really took down my anxiety level and my OCD type thinking. I could not believe it! something actually worked I then decided after reading in these types of forums ( god bless them all) that I would try something more natural because I was feeling a bit zombified. I tried 50mg of 5-htp and I have not looked back .This was about 6 months ago. I love 5-htp and I cannot believe the change that my brain has received from having adequate amounts of serotonin! wow! all I can say is that I feel like I can live my life without the constant repetitive thinking /worrying patterns. It is unreal. I am not saying I am completely fixed as I know this is not a feasibility, I still have issues with avoidance and wanting to isolate myself at times. I actually have just started mucana pruriens, am hoping that this will help with that. I have read a few things on it and there is controversy on whether or not it is too much L-dopa and damage to the receptors, so far nothing has been proven so I will continue my course. Anyway, I just wanted to give a great big thanks to everybody that posts on here because as we all know this is such a tough thing to treat. It is even tougher when it is brain chemistry and not every key fits for the same person. God bless.

hi, i have also been helped using 5htp for seratonin. now i use the L theanine. same good.
it blows my mind the stuff is found in green tea! no wonder i have always known its so good for me.
 
Ditto. I'm completely off my meds and taking green tea and grapefruit juice instead. Seems to keep me calm enough and make withdrawal from Xanax doable.

Might not be able to cope long term without anything. I mean, I was only sleeping three hours a night when I went on meds. I won't leave myself in that condition, but it seems that some natural and beneficial nutrients can assist and support life with PTSD.

A pill may cause other problems. Grapefruit juice is proven to prevent a lot of cancers and other disease. Green tea increases GABA. You can try still having one cup of Joe in the AM but switch to Green Tea for the rest of the morning. On days off, go full Green Tea if you don't have to have the coffee.

Any other ideas to help with sleep?
