When I was in a South Pacific island nation the first night my host asked if I wanted to swim and I said that sounded nice. So I floated in the warm tropical ocean for a while, gazing at the stars. I later learned that my host was quite frightened for me and watched me the whole time from a distance because people rarely to never swim at night, especially not for leisure. The word “swim” meant “to bathe” and my host had prepared a bucket of water for me in the bath hut. And now I realize that we wear “bathing suits” for swimming.
