I am wondering whether acupuncture will be of some assistance to my husband - he has tried it in the past but not for PTSD. I have done some researching and it sounds like it might be helpful. Have anyone of you had any success with acupuncture? Thanks!

Gosh!

I have had successful acupuncture for a physical ailment, but cannot comprehend how it could be helpful for PTSD. I will be looking for other replies with interest.

Hello!

I have only experienced acupuncture once. I noticed a slight, but temporary, difference. I am highly found of more spiritual and natural healing so I'm definately considering starting regular acupuncture treatments for depression.

Acupuncture is a best treatment and it is non surgical treatment. I am sure you will definitely get benefit. It is non surgical treatment and in this treatment needles are inserted into body.

I have been having acupuncture since last autumn for PTSD and it is REALLY HELPING ME. I swear by it and recommend anyone with PTSD symptoms try it. My stress levels have reduced. I'm still a total stress cow but my stress levels are significantly lower!!

My appetite is returning, my ability to sleep is increasing and the quality of that sleep is improving amazingly...I actually feel like I have been to sleep now for the first time in YEARS!!

Also my desire to be sociable is returning, I have been very reclusive and remain quite so but I have been out to the pub for the first time in ages, have started running again and have worked out at the gym around other people feeling comfortable being there.

The PTSD I have is severe and long term. I have found acupuncture far more helpful to my recovery process than any western medical intervention, finally my head is beginning to clear from a fog that descended on it YEARS ago. Please be ENCOURAGED and yes give acupuncture a go. Don't be nervous of the needles, let the acupuncturist put them anywhere they want, at times I feel like a pin cushion but it works!!

Good luck.

I recently started acupuncture out of desperation. I was neither a believer nor a skeptic. I don't have any particular interest in Eastern medicine but was willing to try. In my region it is way cheaper than a therapist or a doctor and around the same price as a massage. I get needles in my ears, back, hands, and feet. The ears are supposedly the most effective for anxiety.

Following the treatment I feel like everything in my body is calmed down. I don't get a huge, crippling flood of stress hormones in response to stressors, triggers or flashbacks. When I do feel some stress I don't immediately get gastric distress or chest pains. The relief has been lasting for 2-3 days after the treatment. I have suffered from lifelong anxiety which recently became extreme when the lid popped off a lot of repressed and forgotten memories. So to have two whole days without anxiety is an incredible feeling.

There are a lot of success stories online and the US military is using it in some locations. I think it is worth a try and some places offer a sliding scale which can make it inexpensive.

I recently tried acupuncture again for my trauma and it has helped enormously. One of the keys for me was going frequently enough and long enough for it to take effect. Last year I tried acupuncture and maybe went once a week for a few weeks and stopped going because I didn't feel like I was getting any benefit and it was too expensive to continue.

This time, I went to a community acupuncture place which is much more affordable, I went 2x a week for a month or so and then weekly for a few months. Currently I am going every few weeks and am thinking about stopping soon. At first I got very exhausted from the treatments which is expected, the energy is moving or something to that effect. Acupuncture has helped me a lot, I was skeptical but it has had some significant effects on me with reduction in hypervigilance, anxiety, disconnection, depression and also decrease in body memories. I have recommended it to other PTSD sufferers, it is definitely worth a try.
