If you'd like, think of albums that had such a profound effect on you that they changed your life, or the way you looked at it. They sucked you in, and took you over for days, weeks, months, years. These are the albums that you can use to identify time, places, people, emotions. These are the albums that no matter what they were thought of musically, shaped your world. Then, add your list.

Hi Luthien

While I don't have a list of albums that have "Changed My Life" my CD collection is actually a story of my life....A list of songs I resonated to due to my life experiences at the time.

I could tell you my story by playing the songs in order...........A slightly different take but I do love music.

If you'd ever like to share your "story by song", I'd like to see...I think that's a neat way of looking at it.

9. U2- The Joshua Tree

Good list. Thanks for starting this thread. I am a huge U2 fan, so my list definitely includes that album.

U2 - Boy
U2 - Joshua Tree
U2 - Achtung Baby (possibly the most influential album for me)
U2 - Zooropa
U2 - POP
The Verve - Urban Hymns
Paul Van Dyk - Global
Information Society - Don't Be Afraid
Gary Numan - Jagged Edge (<--- what I'm currently stuck on)

My list could go on forever. Like others, my life could be told in songs. It could be a fun activity to make a playlist of my life. It would take a few hours though, as there is sooooo much to contemplate.

Alter Bridge

I listen to their 2 Cd's a lot. Some of the lyrics are really stirring. At least I feel that way. Everyone's interpretation of music and lyrics vary and thus tastes vary.

Take the song "Burried Alive" on the "Blackbird" CD. First listen and it could be about someone with alcohol or substance abuse. Listen again and it could be about someone with depression or other issue. Both with very depressive message. But yet, if you listen from the perspective of the end of the song it's about someone who is trying to change their life.

Many of the songs have very deep messages. More than something like "I want to rock and roll and party every night"

I'll have to listen again to some of the albums listed above.

Uriah Heep! Geez, I those albums when they first came out. That shows my age, I guess. Now, if I just had a turntable to be able to play the hundreds of albums I have in the basement..............

Hi Luthien, great thread!

I have quite a list too, but the one album that stands out for me is Sade - Lover's Rock ... so many great lyrics which helped me when I was so alone I hadn't spoken to another human being in weeks and thought it was the end ... When I couldn't feel, these lyrics (and so many others from this album) stirred emotion ...

It`s Only Love That Gets You Through

Girl you are rich even with nothing
And you know tenderness comes from pain
It's amazing how you love
And love is kind and love can give
And get no gain

It's down a rugged road you've come
Though you had every reason
You didn't come undone
Somehow you made it to the other side
You didn't suffer in vain

You forgive those who have trespassed against you
And you know tenderness comes from pain
It's amazing how you love
And love is kind and love can give
And love needs no gain

[Repeat 1]

You didn't suffer in vain
You know it's only love
That gets you through
Only love, it's only love
It's only love that gets you through

The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails

I've found the song The Becoming describes going crazy very accurately

I beat my machine
it's a part of me
it's inside of me
I'm stuck in this dream
it's changing me
I am becoming

the me that you know he had some second thoughts
he's covered with scabs he is broken and sore
the me that you know he doesn't come around much
that part of me isn't here anymore

all pain disappears
it's the nature of
of my circuitry
drowns out all i hear
no escape from this
my new conciousness

the me that you know he used to have feelings
but the blood has stopped pumping and he is left to decay
the me that you know is now made up of wires
and even when i'm right with you i'm so far away

I can try to get away but I've strapped myself in
I can try to scratch away the sound in my ears
I can see it killing away all of my bad parts
I don't want to listen, but it's all too clear

hiding backwards inside of me
I feel so unafraid
annie, hold a little tighter
I might just slip away

it won't give up, it wants me dead
and goddamn this noise inside my head
it won't give up, it wants me dead
and goddamn this noise inside my head
it won't give up, it wants me dead
and goddamn this noise inside my head
it won't give up, it wants me dead
and goddamn this noise inside my head
it won't give up, it wants me dead
and goddamn this noise inside my head
it won't give up, it wants me dead
and goddamn this noise inside my head
it won't give up, it wants me dead
and goddamn this noise inside my head
it won't give up, it wants me dead
and goddamn this noise inside my head
