Thanks @Kailani , I haven't noticed a difference with melatonin, but maybe if I took bigger dose? I do have a pretty regular sleep routine (managed by meds). Exercise daily but not after about 7pm. I was interested in kava but think that was one that might be tricky with the liver and my liver has been through so much. I might try valerian root again. ??
Last night I managed by increasing my dose of gabapentin and shoving all afternoon and evening doses together to 8pm (okay with my doctor). And I added Benadryl. I was up and awake until midnight, reading and doing simple things. It might be hard for me to figure out how to not need sedatives. But I'm not convinced any of them would be good for me. The hard-hitting benzo hypnotics sound like a definite invitation to a bad ending. So I am fine trying to work around it for now. I did sleep well on extra gabapentin and Benadryl, once I went to sleep.
