Anxiety Over Running Into Therapist

I'm in a small town. My therapist's son is in my son's class, and we run into each other frequently. I also see my other therapist once or twice a month.

They let me choose how I wanted it handled. My choices were to ignore each other, just smile and/or say hello, or interact as appropriate to the situation.

I choose a smile and hello, more if I feel like it.

What has been really unnerving has been discovering my therapist is good friends with several of my acquaintances. But it's been good practice for building that "I'm in public so no deep subjects right now" filter.

It's really up to you. My hubby can't wait for us to run into my old therapist together so he can say loudly "the judge said we might get our kids back!" My therapist had said that had happened to him in public once and it was uncomfortable.

Thanks everyone for your responses. The policy we have in place is just to smile or something of the sort, and move on our ways, which I prefer. I think it's just the anticipation of seeing this person that knows SO many personal things about me, outside of that safe place. I feel like it will "humanize" her in a way.
