I’m just realizing that at new jobs I take, that I am freezing and disassociating in subtle and not so subtle ways because I don’t feel safe (as if my brain is trying to protect me from loss again and/or I’m experiencing a lot of fear regarding doing anything wrong); yet these behavior are counterproductive and play a role in losing current jobs.
Since I had never lost a job before, I’ve never know PTSD in this way. It’s gradually getting better; like each new job is a bit of exposure therapy.
Anyone else go through this? What helped you?

I could be 100% wrong but I think one could not get PTSD from a job loss. a shock or depression or anxiety but a full POST Traumatic...I do not know.

I lost a job and almost a year after and in a intense therapy, realized, I lost that job due to dissociation because the new manager was so harsh, I shutdown first day and never woke up in her presences and made so many mistakes and she just could not understand and has become more and more abusive and finally before probation period, she fire me. The thing was though I got 6 weeks severage package so I was so relieved she let me go. I woke up! and got myself into therapy and really woke up>
this to me is that job loss made me realize the extent of my childhood abuse that I carried heavily over the year but to get Post Trauma from losing a job...have you been abused in that job?

Hi Seasounds,

Are you saying your preexisting PTSD symptoms are affected by being in a job? That you had PTSD from previous trauma. That when you start a new job they flare up? And even though it hasn't caused you to loose a job before you are afraid it will. ? But with each new job you take it is improving. ?

If so then I would say its normal for a new job to flare symptoms. Have you read the PTSD Stress Cup Article of Anthony's? There are also new people we don't know or trust. Interpersonal situations to navigate etc etc.

What skills do you have to manage your symptoms?

Yes. I was stalked and harassed at my work and it has had me stop entirely having to work for a decade now. I tried to work again a couple of years ago but I just sat in the office shaking and shivering until the gentleman I was with at the time would literally pick me up and carry me to the car and I would crash out for the rest of the day.

What helped was a good dose of CBD and light exposure self therapy.
