Wow nice grain and pattern on that wood. And I really love that picture of the beach or desert but it has great detail? It makes me want to get into photography again, I failed it in school and mother took away the expensive camera. I haven't done any good picture taking beyond digital photos of Las Vegas in a long time.

The poem is deep and has meaning to me it seems like, thanks for sharing it Loveneverfails. It reminds me of my obsession with my art once I get into it, and how it's easier to go all out and burn out and then go back into my shell.

Pan'sperson your portrait pieces really show some technique and you can see a definitive 'likeness' built into them, I feel like each one has a personality and a story behind it.

Great work everybody it's been a pleasure to see new material, I'll post an update to mine soon. It is just really slow going, a 2"x2" square size area seemed to take hours to do last night, I am in lazy mode right now.

Thanks gamereign wood has become my obsession and the spaulted wood is wonderful to work
with, the amulets are made from wood that has healed over some long ago wound so they are
significant. I also am working on masks that seem out of this world and have carved many
totem type sculptures ,all seem to coming out very native american

I've been really into making my desktop visually appealing. I'm still learning about creating desktop wallpapers but these are my most recent ones :D

Wow, some beautiful work here.

gamereign555: I like the motifs in your etching, the balanced mix of curving and hatched lines. Somehow they remind me of spiderwebs, which I've always found mesmerising.

CraftyCath: I'd love to receive cards like those!

pan's person: Your faces are intense! I feel like a lot of portrait work I see is just shallow likenesses, but yours have life (I really don't know how else to describe it).

Sqweak: All your images are lovely, and I tend to like black and white for my desktop as well. I'd totally use the one with the windswept grasses and that wide dramatic sky. And don't train stations lend themselves to such interesting photos?

Wood Shaman: Those are gorgeous pieces of wood, and the healed-wound symbolism for the amulet is perfect. And you say you make masks as well? (I'm a dancer who performs in masks - usually ones I've made myself - so I'm always excited to meet other mask-makers.)

Amethist: Ooh, zodiac symbols! I'm curious to see what you add to these.

(...and for some reason the forum isn't letting me post my own images. I get an error saying I need at least at least 10 posts - even though I have 20! That said, it is my first day back after a 2-year absence, so I'll try again in the next few days.)

Hi Sila,

Very intense with movement almost can see in the form what the next motion will be. Most all of my wood sculptures are either wound wood or I have incorporated pieces of wound wood into the form of maybe an owls head. eagles, or vulture.

The amulets I either string to be worn around the neck or carried in the pocket, they are made from pieces of limb wood from a white oak that was 150 years old and highly
spiritual in nature. From the same tree the sculptures are made from, I also make war clubs. They take on many forms also from wound wood and they have a very
powerful presence. It seems like I am trying to retrieve my soul from being the pedophile that stole it from me.

Brilliant Sila, is it an oil painting?
Thanks! No, this is a digital piece, though the style is inspired by ebru (Turkish paper-marbling) techniques. (Ebru requires a lot of equipment and pigments so it gets expensive - and messy! And you get only one layer, whereas digitally you can play with several.)

I'll take this as a compliment! Thank you. Dance influences my paintings quite a bit.

Are these the masks you mentioned? I am intrigued, in any case - would love to see some more images, if you're willing to share. :)

It's amazing that you have this connection with your materials, that you can tell me about the very tree your wood comes from.

Again, I'd love to see some of these - though I imagine it's not the same as being in the actual presence of the objects.

*hug* I'm sorry that's happened to you. :( Though I always thought of art as a way of preserving inner things, too...
