Asking For Volunteers To Review My Book

Over the past year or so, I’ve been writing a book. Much of it is autobiographical, much of it is not. It’s a reflection on my life with PTSD, on PTSD in general, and how I’ve found tremendous healing power in the wilderness. It’s also a look into the prehistoric and historic origins of rape and child molestation.

There are seven chapters, many of which are drafted and others are still in progress. I’m at a point now where the research phase is ... well, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Now I’d like to get some feedback from someone.

I’m asking for volunteers to give the first three (mostly autobiographical) chapters a read and provide some constructive criticism. That comes to 75 pages or so. I'm hoping I can post a PDF to this forum sometime in the next week to ten days.

The long term plan is to finish this book and self-publish it as an eBook sometime next year. However, I plan to make a draft of it available for free on this forum. My way of giving back.

Note that there are some passages that will be triggering. These I’ve marked with Trigger Warning in bold. Hopefully, I’ve tagged all such passages, but its hard sometimes to identify what will and what won’t trigger someone. So I may have missed a couple.

Any volunteers?

Thanks in advance...

Would be very happt to help out. As an author homicide survivor and natural health practitioner I (humbly) hope I may be able to offer some words of encouragement and or advice. Please do connect if you feel happy to have me on your side. Good luck with your journey in any case :)

I would be more than happy to review. I will skip the trigger passages if I'm not in the best place at the time.

Happy to read it and comment. You might want to put it up on dropbox or something like that rather than submitting it here - read the T's&C's and think about your intentions for the work.

I would be glad to read it for you and offer feedback. I am not an author but I do a lot of reading and could probably offer constructive feedback.

Count me in, please! I've written and edited, and hope I can be helpful.
(adding to what blueorange implied/said) let us know your intentions for the work.
.When the times comes, the above question will be helpful, for people giving feedback.

The suggestion reminds me of when Truman Capote offered to edit Tennessee William's work. Tennessee consented. Taking on the task, Truman edited Tennessee's long, lingering phrases of embellishments. Upon reviewing the changes Truman made on his stories, Tennessee replied, "You've taken away my style!"

Let us know what kind of feedback you want, including the style you want to keep, if you have a major underlying meta-message that you want each section to build upon, (e.g. hope, healing through the power of nature, trusting yourself, etc.)

I would love to both read and critize this for you!!! What an exciting time for you and how wonderful that you have included us to be a part of it.

Thank you. :)

Boy do I feel stupid. I have a PDF all ready to go and its too big to upload.

I'm OK sending y'all email; the question is if you are all OK receiving one. I don't have a website, which I should probably get.

Damnit. I'm really sorry about this.

Ping me privately if you want to give me your email. In the meantime, I'll be looking for some alternative.

I'll be out of town in the wilderness for the next several days and totally unreachable. See y'all next Wednesday or so.
