I’ve been taking Geodon for about ten years. Before that, I tried seroquel, zyprexa, risperdone and a new one called Vraylar. Over the past year I have intermittently had let down reflex. Then two months ago I awake with my breasts both breasts excruciating pain, inverted nipples and my doctor told me that the atypical antipsychotics can elevate your prolactin. This is serious as it can cause breast cancer and osteoporosis. I had all the tests. My prolactin was just a little bit above normal. I had athermography done as well as a mammo and Ultrasound. The thermography showed that I had lymph congestion. I looked on YouTube to learn how to massage my lymph system. All my symptoms resolved.
I’m sharing this because this link between the antipsychotics and prolactin has caused an increase in breast cancer. The link is a fairly recent discovery. In the end, I chose to stay on the Geodon because my level wasn’t high.
It may be beneficial to have your level checked with a simple blood test. Too much prolactin is serious. The new one called Vraylar is supposed to minimize this problem, but frankly, they don’t really know these side effects for years until we start having health issues. I’m just going to have my level checked yearly and a bone density test every few years. I also started taking calcium and vitamin D.
