I would just like to warn anyone who is considering this medication not to take it without researching first or trying it alone with no one around.

This has been one of scariest medications I have ever tried. First time I tried 10 mg and ended up with sleep paralysis without falling asleep. I was so extremely thirsty and couldn't move my body for some time to get any water. A few nights later out of desperation I tried the 15 mg, and my heart was racing faster than I could count. I ended up with a strange type of chest pain I had never experienced before. Much higher in my chest than anxiety pain, it was just below my collar bone. Thankfully I had some ativan that countered the effects of the belsomra, and was able to sleep after that, but never again.

Wow, I'm so sorry you went through that, Fade. I guess this is why my psych wouldn't prescribe it to me despite my serious insomnia. I'd rather not sleep than go through that.

It was not pleasant. I think my psych was just desperate because of how little I am sleeping and nothing is working anymore. My usual go to's I have developed a tolerance to.

Oh damn. The only thing that helps me sometimes is Unisom -- the doxylamine succinate one. The packaging says it's not habit-forming, but I only take it 2 or 3 times a week, just in case.

I’ve been more fortunate in my experience. Sounds like you may have had an allergy to it or just a hyper sensitivity. I had the benefit of being placed on it while under in patient care. Prior I’ve been on Seroquel, Restoril, Remeron, Ambien, melatonin, and a couple others I can’t recall. Some worked way to well other not at all. Belsomra was pretty much the last ditch effort to find something that would help me sleep without putting me in a 14-20 hour coma. At 10mg it gets the truck done. I’m also taking 2-3mg of Prasozine for nightmares and that’s fairly sedating too. Hope you find what works best for you. I know what it’s like to respond poorly to some of these, from night terrors ramping up to day long fog, but sleep paralysis sucks most for sure. Hang in there.

The dreams I experienced and the sleep paralysis was 100x worse than my night terrors ever could be. Ambien, for me, has been much much better
