just me here

I suspect that if any of the drugs my doctor is offering me were the end-all cure-all drug for PTSD, I would get no responses from this forum because everyone would be on it and no one would be here, reading my thread. So, I expect alot of negative replies, since there is no cure all drug and anyone that has tried these drugs has either gotten no releif or some releif or a short lived releif at best.

I would appreciate any warnings you have to offer, but please don't be disappointed if I try one anyway and report on it later here. I know 2 things for sure about drugs. 1-some people have very bad reactions to some of them, 2-some people have very good reactions to some of them.

I have a long list of reuptake inhibitors and the like from years of chasing symptoms of depression. I am newly diagnosed PTSD and hoping that the new angle might offer some hope for medications. There is no hope coming from my past experiences, all I ever got was side effects, the effects never seemed to be coming. One exception, I was prescribed Klonopin and propanalol and the beta blockers with the sedative seemed to offer the first releif I could attribute to the drugs-finally. I have been on the klonopin 2 and a half years now and dropped the propanalol after issues with over sedation and low energy.

These drugs my Doc wants to try are based on my positive experience with these types of drugs. He describes them as old school blood pressure meds.

They are:
1-guanfacine
2-clonodine
3-prazosin

Any feedback at all will be appreciated, and please don't think me a fool if I try them anyway after someone that has had a bad experience posts here, I still appreciate the input.

If you've had positive experiences with similar medications in the past and your doctor thinks one of these would be helpful I would definitely keep an open mind to trying one. I just wanted to say that my daughter (5½ years old) takes guanfacine twice daily. She is NOT taking it for PTSD but rather for help with controlling some of her ADHD symptoms. She is not a candidate for traditional ADHD medications because it seems that she also likely has a mood disorder and it would not make for a good combination with her particular symptoms. I really did not want to medicate my daughter at all (she's so young and we all know how horrible some of these medications can be) but when the guanfacine was recommended I researched it and reluctantly agreed to a trial. Obviously you would be taking it for other reasons/symptoms than she does but the thing that I wanted to say is that she has not experienced any negative side effects from the medication...and trust me when she first started taking it I was crazy hypervigilant looking for the slightest little negative thing as a reason to take her off of it. It has not been a cure-all for her but it has helped diminish some of her symptoms without any negative stuff...and she's a tiny little girl using it. Seems to me like it would be harmless enough to give it a try if your doctor things it could be beneficial.

I was on clonidine to help with nightmares. It did help but I had to stop taking it because I have low blood pressure naturally and it made me extremely dizzy and disoriented upon waking in the morning.

Clonidine And I

You should always check your blood pressure before taking this medication as it does lower your blood pressure drastically.
