Citalopram

My boyfriend has been on Citlopram for about 2 1/2 months and is experiencing some severe symptoms from it. He is constantly feeling tired and has no energy to do anything. It has also messed with his sleep quite a bit. He is not able to sleep on a normal schedule ( not that he has been on a good sleep schedule.) I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this extreme side affect from this drug. If so, does any one have any recommendations on a different medicine that worked well for them? He has severe depression and anxiety and he feels as if this is not helping at all. Just trying to find the right "one" for him so he can start to feel normal again.

Thank you!

I had the same effects that your boyfriend has, when they had me on Amatriptaline (spelling?) I was like a zombie, it changed my personality altogether.

I hope they find a drug that's more suitable for his symptoms, good luck.

I've been taking 10mg of citalopram since December 2014. I know it's not a large dose, but seems to be enough for me. I initially felt horrible coming onto it. Took about 6 weeks or so to really notice a change. I've never tried anything else. Yes, it seemed more depressing to come onto it then I already was, fatigue, falling down hungry, sleep disturbance etc... the works. Now I'm fine with it.

I'd give it a bit more time, but perhaps he should discuss this with his doctor/therapist. There are a lot of different meds out there. Sometimes it can take a while to find the right one. But once you do, you'll be so thankful for the relief it provides. Keep trying!

Hi!

Meds can be a very individual thing. I think there are certain meds that are more known for certain side effects, but even this isn't foolproof. I've been very sensitive to some meds and have had common side effects, but with other meds I react in a way that is against what most experience as a side effect.

It stinks, but much of it is about trial and error.

I have used Citalopram for a few years, have not had any side effects. Like was said, sometimes different meds have to be tried for different people. I was so lucky with this. Was on Zoloft before had constant side effects.Hopefully his Dr will find what works for him.

I took citalopram for years but it stopped working for me, I was prescribed Brintellix instead when I was suicidal. Brintellix is fairly new and very expensive but I was able to get it for free from Takeda (drug company). Hope he finds something that helps.
