Its literally impossible to speculate on whether blocking him in your situation would or would not be a problem later.

So, my personal advice would be to not block. Don't help, don't block. He knows where you are at, yes? If he wants to come, he can come. Or not. His call.

Why? One, I think he will de-escalate faster. I suspect this guy likes the fight. No fight, no interest.

Two, you stand a 50-50 chance of it causing a problem. So just remain neutral until he forces the issue by showing up and saying 'I want full custody of my child'...which I'd be shocked if he did.

Since you are a US citizen - you should qualify for some amount of free legal aid (advice) in the US, which you could access over Skype or email.

Those are my thoughts.

I think I can get him a passport.

Not an international case, but interestingly this was one of the first things I was advised to do - in my case it was as a preventative measure to keep his dad from taking him out of the country without my permission (he was named on the birth certificate, but the way the law stood at the time, he didn't have automatic parental responsibility from that so I didn't need his signature or details for the passport).

I'm reluctant to share any of my other experiences at the time as I don't think they will be relevant, other than to say that, here in the UK at least, at the time I was going through it, my exes (violent) treatment of me was not taken into consideration by court welfare in making recommendations for contact.

I would urge you to get the passport though.

Agree with Joey, about not blocking... document, document, document and compile a file with evidence of all his threats. You may need it one day.
