I am starting a modified DBT approach with my long time therapist. I have been working in therapy for a long time (decades) and have recently come to find out that my mother never picked me up as an infant and I've started having memories of being terrified of her and hiding from her. My sister has confirmed this (that we used to hid from my mother). In the last year I've been having panic attacks and had some major sleeping issues as well as nightmares.
Has anyone with what I will call childhood trauma, that isn't a fully recovered set of memories, had experience with DBT?
I am struggling with a few things wrt DBT
1) is it giving up on understanding what happened to me (decades of talk therapy) and "working through it"?
2) if I am already doing some of the coping strategies how will it really help me?
3) will it really work and if so what is the outcome?
Thanks for readind
