Undiagnosed Definitely meet criteria for CPTSD, but scared of therapy

Just as a side note I use journaling as my talk therapy. Has helped a lot over the years.

Been diagnosed...tried to get therapy but couldn't afford it, the therapist was useless because I'd already ingrained so many coping mechanisms there wasn't anything she could offer that I hadn't already done. She pushed me at a psychiatrist who didn't really listen to my story, just sent me on my way with 2 anti-depressant prescriptions. I wasn't depressed. I've managed for 58 years without ending up in a straight jacket and padded room. Lots of self care and one trip to a psych ward yrs ago. I'm still alive to talk about it and deal with it.

If you can afford therapy and find a good therapist, I would say go for it. It's a lot harder dealing with it alone and not everyone has the strength to do so.

Ah, the lazy, “you’re depressed.” Did the psychiatrist even ask you screening questions for depression?! I get asked screening questions EVERY TIME I go to my Physicians’ office. The medical assistant asks me them then the Dr comes in and we have a chat. They do this I’m guessing due to my PTSD and Anxiety. Ps they don’t try to make me go on antidepressants if I don’t actually need them.

Nope. No questions. Looked at my file and wrote me a scrip. I was there about 15 min.

Most psychiatrists ONLY do med management, and appointments are 15min ($700-2500 per hour).

Best bet is to find a therapist that has a short list of psychiatrists they work with, so they can do counselling with you and give notes to the doc.
