DID Did ish stuff

Could be DDNOS, DID, structural dissociation, CPTSD or anything like that. But just remember, the most important thing is to live your truth. As you live your truth, the specifics will continue to come out and you’ll be able to continue healing.

Well lets just say....it's been going on a while. I guess with another T...I curled up in a ball...
You discovered why doing dishes is so hard for you? Who knew?! I had this experience where I had a flashback while I was sleeping and it propelled me out of sleep into a standing up position and I said out loud, "that's where my problem with brown painted walls and rooms come from!" Who knew! It was all trauma. I am in the situation as you in many ways. My t started with internal family stuff and it really worked super fast and quickly and then BAM an interference to therapy happened... and now everything is sideways. I may have DID I may not. I don't really care about dx, I just want to be free some of these really, painful, disabiling symptoms. I would like to live my life fully in the current year!

This.

I think we (the mental health community and its patients) get too caught up in the diagnosis and don't focus on the symptoms.

I get that, for insurance, you need it. I get that providers have an easier time treating if they have a diagnosis. I also get that it really helps many of us to make sense of what's going on. But a diagnosis can be very limiting. And it can be dangerous if doctors are insisting that symptoms are because you are xyz and they really aren't (either medical or mental health diagnoses).

The other thing that bothers me about diagnosis is that the criteria change. So if you were diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, you now have DID (at least in some places, geographically). And the understanding and criteria for DID are different. So who gets to decide? A panel that has never experienced it and likely, for the most part, doesn't have a LOT of experience with it.
