And I have an appointment with a disability attorney in a few hours and I'm nervous about it. I don't have the patience to thoroughly go through documents so of course I waited till last second and now have to scurry around getting together everything they've requested and hope I have it all

Any advice? I feel like i'm going to give too good of an impression and they won't want to take on my case… Is this a real concern and if yes what do I do about it?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

P.s. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety and PTSD to be ruled out because I don't have specific memories and therefore don't have specific nightmares or flashbacks. But I do have all other symptoms

Firstly I am almost sure you will meet with an assistant. Secondly a disabilty case is formed on medical proof. So as long as you Psyc Dr is on board they might take you. Have you had any hospital visits?

This is a beyond long process and very aggitating to say the least.

Best of luck.

Thanks. Never been to hospitals or it. Only psychiatrists & trauma T's. Was just hospitalized for MRSA due tokay of showering (trigger) for a loooong time.

What do you mean by doc being "on board"? About what?

I'm not the one who posted about your doctor being on board, but imagine what was meant was your doctor being on your side and willing to help.

Is there an advocacy centre in your area? They can be very helpful at walking you through the process of applying for disability.

It was suggested to me for years to apply for disability. After a longstanding, successful career I was really hesitant the income from it would not suffice. I did apply and was accepted and happy I have time to heal, get the help I need with the insurance provided and it dated back to the date I became disabled (started therapy with a PTSD diagnosis). The only guidance I got from my doctor was to let it all out. Go to the appointment(s) as if it were the worst of the worst day. Dress as you would if having a bad day at home. Discuss the worst things that actually go through your mind. Having a professional background I was very hesitant to take the suggestion. As it turned out, I was so freaked out by the medical review that social security asked me to do that I was actually in a pretty bad state of disassociation when they interviewed me. Even though you are using an attorney, it is likely you will (if in the US) need to still have the medical/psych exam at a location determined close to you by the state you live in. For me, the location was in a pretty gnarly part of town, which amplified my PTSD even more. The symptoms were in full flair mode and I did not try to restrain one bit. It is the truth I was living with at that point in time. Though the process is daunting, for me, it has been worth it. Processing and therapy and other health issues can be time consuming and costly. Had it not been for giving myself this time to get on board with getting better, I am not sure where I would be today. The provided insurance has been so beneficial. Hang in there and let it all hang out at every meeting you go to. This is a huge step for you and don't take for granted how hard it can be for us with PTSD.
